Some Cords sold last year at Barrett-Jackson starting at 25K...and they ran. At the same time, others sold for $100k to $200k or more. My son's father in law just bought a partially restored Cord (with almost all parts, running engine, etc.) for $3000 (off eBay!). It will be on the road and look similar to the white one in the foto in about a year of part time garage work. It won't be perfect and some aftermarket parts may be needed to get it on the road quickly...but he will have LESS than $25K in a true classic and the price absolutely will go up. No speculation. They don't corner great...but for a mid-30's car they do go fast.

The purple car is supercharged and these usually sell for a lot of money.

The "collector car" market is a weird one. What gets HOT seems to be what ever someone lusted for as a youth, young man but could not afford to buy. The car they had pictures of on the wall the one they saw in the movies ,read about in magazines and literally became the object of their lust. That infatuation continued until at some point in time they are in a financial position to manage to buy one. The appreciation of real estate has allowed many to tap into their equity and buy that collector car because we all KNOW collector cars just go higher and higher...just ask Barret-Jackson The problem with the older cars like the Cord is the boys who lusted for one are either dead or too old to really care much and the 50-60 year olds are buying Mustangs , Cudas and Cameros ....And remember this is about infatuation a dream based on how it LOOKS and has NOTHING to do with is it a good car , drive well, perform well it is simply THEY WANT IT ! And the fact that others want it too just fuels the fire. NO point in trying to use logic because this is all about EMOTION. This thread is interesting from one standpoint which is the second choice for many is a car which sells for far more money than the average 928 which might indicate that the perception is that a 928 is grossly undervalued in the marketplace.

That tells you something about my age.....my first rig was a 1928 Ford Pickup truck and I've had probably 2 dozen cars that were made in the 30's and 40's..not to mention the later years. As I get older I like the cushy seats, heaters, and performance of the 928s. I had never heard about the 928 in all my years, until I saw my '85 for sale in North Idaho...and it was love at first sight. I've not turned back and I expect to die with one in my garage (and another on the street). If I had to choose a second performance car, it would probably be a lower priced Ferrari...or maybe just stick with my 968 Pcar (not for its performance although many like the 944 Turbos/968s). The body style reminds me of my (now) first love. My old '38 plymouth, 4 door reminds me of a woman I used to know.

I have read that article and thought it was kinda weak, those astons looked like kit cars, not at all like the DB5 or the new astons.

The 0-60 on a good S2 is a lot better than that time or a lot of other cars have real optimistic quotes.

This is a very interesting thread. If I didn't have the 928, I'd probably have a second generation MR2 Turbo... I had an '85 MR2, and loved it, but I've also had two 914's and a Fiero (uh, I know)... something about mid engine cars that I've always liked... although, the older I get, the more I like the true GT's like the 928.

Suffice to say, that if I could sell the 928 tomorrow and get that second gen MR2 for the same money... I wouldn't.

But, I recently saw a Contach Kit on a stretched fiero chassis with a V8...... nah... to much time working on it and not enough driving....

Hughett...I'm guessing you got those pics from a old post of mine..the Mondial that is, not the 355. I love that car and as with the 928, F car owners snub it. It was the last car Enzo himself had a hand in the design I believe. I pulled those pics off of a couple of Ebay auctions when I was in the market for one. I would still like one, but it's not the most comfortable car if you are over 6 foot with feet to match.

If I was a smaller guy, I think I would prefer an 69' Alfa boat tail Spyder or an Austin BN 100. They didn't used to be expensive and you can still pick up a less than concours car for a reasonable price.

Hard to say what I would drive, but thank the lord that isn't an issue these days.

Hey Harvey, I got one of those too! Although mine doesn't look that nice right now. I also have the same model Mondial, and you are correct about getting it repaired. It's a nightmare.

What I want next is a Lotus Esprit Turbo.
