Default Installed the X-Pipe - not too sure

I swapped my RMB for my GT rear muffler this week in preparation of the x-pipe install. I finally got to "plug in" the x-pipe today and i am not too sure about the sound. it sounds very different, a bit "raspy". i may have a small leak at the end of the x-pipe going into the rear section to the resonators.
what is the way to go there? weld it?
how does anyone else like the "x" sound?

Timely thread,

I just got mine from Motorsport about 10 minutes ago. I'll let you know how I like the sound when I put it in this weekend.

I used the copper color gasket maker available and any autoparts store. It's like caulk. Works good though.

OUCH!!

Porken I wasn't going to take this public, but you started it.

So I'm in the middle of a transaction with Porken for one of his fine products the other day, and I send him an e-mail stating my intention to purchase a set of performance chips on eBay as well. He sends back a response that says, basically, 'You mean these?' and attaches a link to the chips I was watching. Show's over, Porken snaked me big time!

No harm no foul as I was able to order my own set, it was just funny.

Thanks again Ken!

yeah, the X drones quite a bit at cruise. I can give ya the exact Dbs in my car. But each is different. Louie Ott made and interesting post a while back and im not sure if some picked up on it.

In a nutshell
...Fom his testing( and correct if im wrong Louie) the X pipe really does help the HP and TQ....he did this with both a RMB and stock muffler on the back. With the X installed there was a negligble difference when he swapped out the stock rear muffler with a RMB.

With the Cats installed, there was a differnce when the rear muffler was removed and RMB added.

Somehtign like that.

So...With the X installed youve basically made your gains by getting rid of the cats and creating better flow/scavenging and the RMB isnt going to do much for you anymore... except add a bitt of attitude...which of course is worth a few pyschological HP .

Im thinking about adding my stock muffler back now... ..although i ditched it years ago

There has been an enoremous amount of conversation recently on the noise topic when adding an X to a stock system with a RMB.

The concensus I see is the combo of X and Rmb is too loud and most folks are installing their OEM rear muffler of going to a GT version.

Any chance any on the innovators out there may be looking at developing/testing a 'good' rear muffler that complements the X on power and sound?

I'm ok with the present set up but do believe it could be better (Motorsport X, GT resonators, GT rear muffler) at least in lightness.

I've had to run my very effective DEVEK X-pipe with the factory muffler because of the drone. You aren't going to get the old blub-blub V-8 rumble with an effective X-pipe because the blub-blubs have been mixed together into one note. It's the nature of the beast, as far as I know. A less effective X-pipe might not mix as well and might not have as much drone. There have been some suggestions about using 85-86 resonators, IIRC, and having some positive effect on the drone.

No going back once you get an X, it changes the base sound, people will have to try various mufflers etc. until they find a sound cocktail they like. Personally I am thinking Magnaflow, but maybe the key to tuning the sound will be the resonator?

X2

...dunno..clamp RMB in a jig..hack it off..find a muffler that would fit? You dont want to modify anything else prior to that joint. Just a simple bolt up replacement for the factory muffler. 2 in..2 out...or 2 in ..1 out..doesnt matter IMHO
Stock is WAY too heavy...quiet, but heavy.
