A sequential transaxle from Hewland or Xtrac w/ several sets of gears for each particular track would be nice. Hell throw on some Aluminum-Lithium calipers that were banned from F1 too.

It depends on what clas you're running in. With the cars a lot of you are describing, either the 928 doesn't fit well or you'd be way out of your league for competition.

What are the options?
POC/PCA GT-something (Anderson and Fan)
ITE (Kibort and Scot)
GT03 (Stan?)
GT2 (JV?)
NASA Supercup/PCA SP3 (nobody yet)

Now that's an idea. I've always dreamed of fabbing a space frame car from the ground up. I've just been short on skills, time, money, etc.

As Brian noted, the weight thing is important, and with proper engineering, I'd think this would be a great way to come up with a lightweight car, and have the look and "Uniqueness" of a Shark body.

The one that's sitting near the rafters at Kelly Moss would also be something to look at too.

Is it tubeframed?

POC/PCA GT-something (Anderson and Fan) R2R POC, PCA GT2
ITE (Kibort and Scot) R4 or R5 POC, GT2S, NASA GTS (german touring series) and of course the AV8SS (American V8 Supercar series)

The only problem with the stock'ish 928 in the POC classes, is that you have to carry a tremendous amount of weight, as the classes, based on PCA, are based on stock weights. did you know 355hp 911s can weigh 3000lbs while the S4 needs to weight 3505lbs!! real fair! in PCA, GT2 is unlimited so that isnt a place for anything other than a stroker

NASA, ITE, and AV8SS all get it. very fair classes where a well driven 928 can win.

The KM car is a 944, as I recall, with a tube framed front end, to allow a 928 motor.

I'll jump in with my wish list:

Stroker NA motor with light starter, electric power steering pump and repositioned alternator( for added ground clearence), dry sump oil system, current Motec engine management system; lighten chassis with c-fiber/kevlar panels to include: one piece nose covering a tube frame front end, composite rear hatch, doors, and body panels; usual brake upgrades with adjustable bias; lexan windows all around; sequential gear box; aero aids like the current 997 cup cars; bottom panels to smooth airflow with rear diffuser; welded cage like the 997 cup cars, air jacks, Recaro seat; removable Momo steering wheel; Moton/JRZ/Penske adjustable shocks; 18" rims/tires and more money!

now youre talking!

I'll add:

center single wheel nuts, and with that tubed frame, shock towers widened so the engine can be removed with headers.

My Schedule with SCCA ITE is:
April Sears Point (INfinion Raceway)
May Laguna Seca
june Thunderhill
july Thunderhill
auguust sears point
September Laguna seca
October Laguna seca

since i came out to road america to see the 928ers and only JL showed up, you guys need to make the trip back to california for a 928 race off event!

There is always a chance i can get back to Road America again. Got to hit that 2:30 with some decent tires this time!

Cool

A 6-litre 16v twin turbo (all the possible internal weight-saving/balancing/strengthening possibilities are a given) installed in a '79 shell driving through a redesigned 6-speed gearbox. 18" magnesium rims hiding 350mm+ discs and an 8/4-pot caliper set up. Suspension should reactive and use gas-emulsified shocks with titanium spring, and redesigned anti-rollbars using lightweight composite techonolgy. Aerodynamic aids should utilise piezoelectric technology to reduce deflection under load.

Obviously the body would be modified and replaced using titanium, aluminium and aramid composites wherever possible.

By the time that's finished, there'd be somethng else to do... This really would be a project that never gets finished!
