Seat Switch Fix
The seat forward and rear up function on my 86 did not work so here is how I fixed the problem,
Step 1- Go to Radio Shack and buy some contact cleaner, http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search
Step 2- Spray cleaner into the seat switch.
Step 3- Wait 5 Minutes.
Done, Problem Fixed

Or, you could do it like I did: pull out switch, disassemble, loose ball bearings all over garage, and burn up a spring by shorting it across switch contacts...oh wait, that doesn't qualify as a "fix," per se...

I was planning to do the Chaadster approach (well at least the take it apart) but this sounds like a great fix that I plan to try first, that is when the cover comes off and the battery goes back in.

The passenger seat on my '86 would not go backward. It did go forward slowly. I was sure it was electrical, but it turned out to be just lack of lube.
Some spray lithium grease on the drive screws and tracks made it work again.

JB,
I just lost one of the functions of my seat switch. I can tell it's in the contact because all other positions 'register' with a dip on the volt meter when I push the buttons, but the guage never moves for the seat back adjuster any more.
I was planning on the Chaad approach myself (I won't try to fool myself, that's exactly how it was going to wind up), but maybe I'll try your technique first. It might leave time for me to fix something else weekend .

Fellas...it's actually not that bad of a job taking the switches apart. Yes, there are tiny steel ***** & springs inside, but if you are careful it can be done. I found the contacts inside my switches needed a light sanding to remove the years of arcing. I don't think a contact cleaner would have worked for me.
