Body kit options
Hey guys. has anyone had luck "adapting" a body kit to the 928 from any other make of car? I really want to upgrade the look of my OB, however the J-mond kits are not in my budget at the moment ($10K installed and painted) if I still want an S4 this spring. The Erebuni kit's are only $750 but look a little too miami vice..dated. My wife just got a full wrap around kit for her grand prix painted and installed for $1150. It looks killer and was uber cheap.
Just wondering what other cars may have a close enough front end to adapt. Side skirts are the easy fit and I'll most likely leave the rear stock.
Final option is to go with the 928MS kit, however that would require wider rims and tires, possibly rear spacers and fender mods to look right.
Thanks for your input.

Most comprehensive collection of body mod photos for the 928:

I am in the process of making my own custom body mods. So far I have aquired a S4 rear hatch. Fiberglass S4 spoiler. I work for a local toyota dealer so I have started with a few on hand parts. The front spoiler mod. began as a TRd add on lip for a Scion TC, cut the ends, flipped sides and epoxied the front center part. Coated the whole thing with fiberglass and started molding it to the front. It will be fully removable in case it ever gets damaged. The side skirts are origonally a rocker fillers from another Toyota. I chose them because they are rounded on the lower edge instead of a square edge. Added an aluminum channel mount for strength and to attach some mounts to so they can also be fully removed if ever damaged.
I would spend some time looking at other cars measurements and profiles. If you are into body work and have the patience you could modify anything to fit. I am the on my second kit of sorts, purched one off ebay in attempt to modify it to 928..way too much work. If you are not into body work there is going to be alot of additional labor trying to have something fitted, better off getting a 928 kit.

Yeah, that's my site, and yes, it's a bit out of date.
I need to update some of the links.
There were a few people working on new kits for the 928,
but the main problem is that not many people are really interested in doing it.
Mainly because it often requires new wheels, new tires, and a paint job.
So even if the kit is cheap, the total cost will really add up.
Jacquemond still keeps putting out new kits, so that's good.
But it's just way too expensive.
What happened to those guys in South Africa?

I like the site, some great picks. I flat out love the Kenesis car! Maybe I'll go with a yellow paintjob, and all black body panels from 928MS and the reverse of the Kenesis graphics in black instead of yellow over the front.
The green J-mond on your site is flat out, just a licensed penismobile. But for $5-6K for the kit plus shipping, labor to put on and finally paint.. Easily $10K

That kit from S. Africa was really nice. He pretty much disappeared. Wonder if he ever got the car on the track? Anyone have more info?

Terra-pistras, A good and cheap alternative for you would be this. A pair of Louis Ott's awsome rear quarter-flares and then visit a site that sells 944 kits and pick some side skirts you like. The length is easily modified to work with the 928. It is alot of work but not that difficult.
Good luck

I remember seeing a UK 928 with a euro Ford Escort front bumper modified to fit as a lower spolier on a pre-S4 car. It looked rather good. The colour of the car was baby blue, but that's all I remember

My biggest concern here is the budget. For $4k you cannot even get a decent repaint on a 928, including the necessary rubber and trim pieces - then how can you possibly get a decent quality body kit including paint? The rubber and trim alone is close to $2k... that would only leave money for an Earl Sheib cheapo paint job.
I would think that for $4k you can only destroy the car and its value. Maybe for $5-6 you can do a nice restoration in an area less expensive than where I live. But a body kit doesn't seem like it's in the budget.

Paint is already budgeted. Don't need a concours paint job so $3k will be fine as there is no rust or other body work. PO already painted over most of the trim, so I will repeat . Again not a concours show car. For my wifes car the panels came in pre-painted to match her factory color. Looked great. Also a 3K paint job in California is not a 3K paint job in Pensacola (The Redneck Riviera..).
I want a fun car not a show winner. As for restoration..not on an '81. If I put $10K into restoration and a great paint job, my '81 might be worth $6-8K on a good day. I bought it to drive into the ground and have fun doing it. I'd rather continue to put my money into performance mods. For expample, do I spend $1200 on new leather sport seats, or $400 on a pair of more comfortable memory foam race seats with 5 point harnesses... Neither one is the correct answer for everyone.
I looked at Ott's rear fender panels and they are great. With the side skirts from 928MS I'd be 3/4 there and under budget. Unfortunatley the front spoiler is the most important part to me and I have few options beyond stock at this point.
I love the miata mirrors and will give them a try. Found a decent pair for $35 shipped. For the $550 saved over the GT mirrors, I can settle.
Thanks for the help folks!
