The Stock or Mod dilemma...84S

Only thing I did Non Stock was the exhaust system, and it really works well.
Car drives and handles well enough that I can leave that as the only Mod. I don't really care about the Boost aftermarket.
Wife wants me to leave the rest Stock.
(Probably right as I getting a bit too old too lay around under cars and try designing systems).
I keep seeing things I might want to update, as that is just today versus OEM.
Hell'uva fine car! Should I work OEM only, despite the high prices of engine, chassis, and interior parts?...or just update where I see an improvement. Most of you racing these cars certainly had to make the changes.
Appreciate your input and experince.

I say, "Personalize according to your taste and budget. Keep it clean and well maintained. Drive and enjoy."
The original owner of my '84S had pinstripes added (see avatar). I like them, others do not. I am running chromed original wheels that I like but I wish were wider so I could put more rubber on the ground. I am glad your wife shares your interest in your 928. That will go a long way in your enjoyment of it. Good luck.

I continue to modify mine where I want something more or better than what was offered at the time of production. Porsche is a great engineering firm, but they make mistakes and compromises that don't necessarily fit my needs or wants. My current mods include:
X-pipe & RMB - Better performance and sound (less weight)
Eibach/Bilstein suspension - More sporty handling
928 Spec. front and rear sway bars - Better handling
18" wheels - Looks
Painted calipers with cast hole rotors - Looks
55 Bar bias valve - Better braking
3 VDO custom gauge panel in dash - Better engine info and looks (and someone said it couldn't be done)
AFR guage in dash above radio - Better engine info
Custom Audio head unit and all speakers - So much better than stock
Dynamat the interior and foam'd "B" pillers - Quite ride/audio sound
Rear seat delete - Better utilization of the space/looks/custom audio (less weight)
Map nets on both doors - Better utilization of the space
Replaced knee bolster with a package shelf - Needed a place for cig. lighter for air pump and better storage. (less weight)
Tinted rear taillights - Looks
Painted rear bumperetts to match body - Looks
Deleted rear wiper - Looks (and weight savings)
Deleted headlight washers - Looks (less weight)
Clear front turn signal and side marker lenses - Looks
As a true nut about these cars, I enjoy working on them. I also get a sense of accomplishment when I can do something very well or that someone else hasn't done (or says it can't be done). So, I'll continue to modify mine. (About six different mods still in work and yet to be installed.) If your totally happy with yours just the way it is then leave it alone. But based on your signiture, we are very close in age, so you can get down on the cold concrete floor and dream like I do!

IMHO, you can have one helluva car just by bringing it back to stock spec. Along the way, you may find that you prefer some alternative to the OEM part. Some things have improved a lot over the years, like electric fans. Some things are hard to match with new stuff, like some of the switchgear. It's your call!

Namvet,
I'm in the same camp with Jim M. (although not in the same class, I've seen pix!
) and Dave.
It's your car. If it's not a low mileage garage queen, do what you want to make it exactly the way you want it.
Most of us here are just as comfortable (and happy) with a wrench in our hands as the steering wheel and feel better about a car when we know we've had something apart, fixed it, cleaned it up, maybe changed a bit, and then got it back together and running well.
One thing I don't recommend: I was messing around and doing searches on different mods. If you choose to add Lambo doors, don't tell anyone. You'll get flamed out of existence!
.
Good luck and have fun.

I think my car has some fairly uncommon features...but still, I've seen enough museum pieces dusted off and headed into the collector market that I don't have any conscience issues about modifications. I chose to keep the minor, but that's for my own sanity's sake.
