Question I want the ride "OEM", are these the proper shocks?

Hello All,

I will be doing my shocks in the coming months, and wanted to check that the shocks I will be buying are the ones I want.

I want to replace the front and rear shocks with the same factory OEM shocks so my ride will be the same as when delivered.

I don’t want to lower my car, stiffen the ride, or have adjustable anything. I want the ride OEM.

Are these the shocks that I want?

Front: BOGE (Gas) - 928.343.055.07

Rear: BOGE (Gas) - 928.333.051.16

Thanks,
Michael

From a nice post by daveo90S4 in this thread:

My past analysis shows for 1988 and 1989
Front springs:
928 343 511 09 (404 brown)
or
928 343 511 12 (504 orange) for M637

Front Shocks
928 343 055 07 boge
or
928 343 055 08 bilstein
or
928 343 055 09 boge for M474 or M637

Rear springs
928 333 531 14 boge
- 301 1 colour band
- 302 2 colour bands
- 303 3 colour bands

Rear shocks
928 333 051 17 boge

1990 and 1991 the same except
Rear shocks
928 333 051 16 boge

1992 same as 1990 and 1991 except
Front springs 928 343 511 12 (504 orange) for M637 and front shocks 928 343 055 08 bilstein not offered.

Notes M474 = "sports shocks"
M637 = "club sport"

What's the story with these "color bands" what do they signify?
Rear springs
928 333 531 14 boge
- 301 1 colour band
- 302 2 colour bands
- 303 3 colour bands

Rear shocks
928 333 051 17 boge

1990 and 1991 the same except
Rear shocks
928 333 051 16 boge

1992 same as 1990 and 1991 except
Front springs 928 343 511 12 (504 orange) for M637 and front shocks 928 343 055 08 bilstein not offered.

Notes M474 = "sports shocks"
M637 = "club sport"[/QUOTE]

The color bands refer to three different particular ranges of spring rates, which varied between 6375 and 6963 N, or about 10% . I don't know whether the springs were grouped (and marked accordingly) because of variation during manufacture, and individual springs were tested and grouped so 'matching' sets would go on a car, or ???????

Do a search for a thread called "S4 or GT springs", lots of good info there.

Cooler
You want standard Boge "grays" which it sounds like you found, but I don't have PET handy.....those are the most common shocks used on most later 928's.......they also seem to last a really long time too!

Thanks for the responses.

Brian, the standard Boge (gas) shock is pictured as black with blue Boge ident sticker like this from 928 SPLT...

I just don’t see any grey Boge units? The Bilstein are polished metal, and the Koni’s are red.

Springs were tested and grouped before they were installed into cars. Each car did get same group pair. More equipment car had larger group springs were installed. Heaviest cars used only third group springs.

Shouldn't M637 really be M474? I think when M474 sport shocks were ordered between years '89-95 car always got CS springs at front.

Every set of standard gas Boges I've seen were a light grey .... the early hydraulic units were black.

Mike, Did those buttheads make it right with the RH 3.6 wheel damage?
