What Ed is mentioning is not related to your vibration and has more to do with automatic tranny cars.
Good luck in your search. The fun has just begun. My goal was to get the best car in terms of condition for the money I wanted to spend, regardless of color and options (well, almost regardless). So, I ended up with a white 89 S4 (AT) with 72K miles for $16K a little more than 6 years ago. Some people hold out for 5-speeds, certain colors, certain years, certain options. That's fine, but it just means the search will be longer and you will have to be even luckier to find a good car.

VehiGAZ,
You are only 1 hour from a premier 928 mechanic, David Lloyd of Musante Motorsports, www.MusanteMotorsports.com David may know of other cars for sale as well.
Only get a PPI from a 928 mechanic, one Rennlister has offered to help you there. John Veninger is also in NJ, and might know of one, or be able to help you out, he owns a GT as well as races another 928, not to mention being the PCA Club 928 Tech Advisor. Resources for this are plenty when you know who to ask, and here is a great place to do that.
A proper PPI will easily pay for itself if one issue is identified. While we all love these cars here, they are not inexpensive to maintain.

VehiGAZ: How do you like the Vehicross? From reading the troubleshooting and defect petition threads over there, it looks like it has been good preparation for dealing with some of the 928 anomalies. We have the excuse that the car is old and way over-engineered by Porsche.

PPI gives you a baseline even if nothing is found. I helps to set up the PM schedule for the car so you know what to plan for over the next year or so.
If a car has been sitting a long time, like some of low mileage garage queens, the initial PPI may not show much, but look at it again after a 1000 miles and you may have a nice list of stuff to work on once the old dry seals get a few heat cycles on them.

I can't believe Russell hasn't sold his GT yet! That is one fine looking GT.
I'd consider it myself, but owning two 928's right now is just not an option, and I have a thing for the GTS body.

But then again I kinda gave it a rest over the holidays, just too much going on. I plan to take some new pictures and post it again on rennlist and autotrader, before I do the unthinkable and ebay it!
It's a nice GT, it'll make somebody very happy, patience......

Regarding the Vehicross...
Yes, it was ridiculously expensive when new... in 1999 they listed for about $31k. That was too much for what you got, except for the owning-a-concept-car-come-to-life factor, which is valued quite differently by different people. But the prices came way down - I bought a 5-year-old '99 with 48k miles in great condition for $12k. I've had it 2 years now, and I really love it. There's something fun about pulling into the gas station, car wash, etc. and having the car guys walk up to you, staring in wonder, and ask which 2007 model it is, only to have to tell them its a '99. :-) But it is certainly not for everyone - it is a different animal, and pretty quirky too. Some of the detractions on the vehicross.info site are valid, others not so much. There are a couple of design flaws, true, but the "prone to engine failure" claims are hyperbole. Mostly, I think owners feel that Isuzu is abandoning them, which, even if true, seems a silly complaint to me since it is clear they have been falling out of the US market for some time...
Regarding PPI...
My cousin uses David Lloyd for his 944 turbo, I believe. Thanks for the recommendation!
Regarding Russell's GT...
I am well along in the process of deciding that I want his instead of the white one in NJ. Patience everyone...
I tell you what, though... I don't think I have enough time to keep up with TWO car forums. :-)
Thanks again to all for your suggestions, advice, and recommendations!
