FWIW I just recently recieved my copy of John's manual, and while it's not exactly specific to my car (1990) Combine John's book with Mr. Pirtle's write-up, and IMHO for the price, you're not going to get a better aid for this job unless you know an old German guy who's worked for Porsche to hang over your shoulder while you wrench.
Great Job John.
(And a Huge thanks to John Pirtle as well).

^Absolutely. The combination of John K's manual opened up & John P's writeup printed out; side by side while doing a first-time t-belt, tensioner & w.p. job is insurance to get the job done right the first time.
Anything ambiguous or unclear in one is clarified in the other.

Are these still available?? I am a rookie owner of an 88S4. After getting the car a few months ago I have fixed a few issues with help from this (amazing) forum, and some local advice. It was running when I bought it but not well...I did all the fluid, brake pads, FPR, reran that trans vacuum modulator line to fix the hard shifting, adjusted shift timing, etc. The car was finally running nicely and the weather obliging so I drove it to work a couple of days with no issue. On the way home on day 2 about a mile from home the belt tension light came on. I nearly had a stroke (after reading the warnings on here). I limped at very low rpm's for about a mile to get it into my garage, and haven't started it since. I will try to get some experienced help doing the TB, especially as I know the other components need checking, and I am very green. It sounds like John's manual is exactly what I need to get started... FYI - if anyone experienced with TB replacement near Commerce MI wants to make a few bucks, I could use some help - I definitely don't want to get this job done wrong....

I have a copy for an 85/86. I bought it at the time at the time when I owned my 928. Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to use this manual. I am asking $10 including shipping within the States. Plse PM me if interested. Thanks!

Smart thing to do. Set yourself up with John K's manual and John P.'s writeup and have at it. It's really not that bad, and actually rewarding to learn about everything that's going on with that system.

Thanks for the advice. The manual a couple of posts earlier was sold. Does anyone else have a copy they would like to sell? I emailed Joh K. but haven't heard back yet.

It was done for the early 32V car - however it maps very well to the S4. I used it for my first Timing Belt job, and its excellent
