NAPA oil filter OK?
I just picked up an oil filter - NAPA Gold 1285
It supposedly came up as one of the cross references to the Porsche filter in the NAPA store computer. Does anyone know if this will be acceptable for my 1988 S4?

Three Wheelin'
Looks like the right size, actually:

It's almost 2x as much as the Mann filter from 928Intl. Which NAPA also sells as the "premium" filter for $15.

I've always used the factory oil filter, they cost about 6 or 7 bucks. Occasionally on eBay you can buy 4 or more at a time for less. This oil change since I'm out of my supply of filters I'm going to use a Wix filter.

Hi,
all filters are not built the same as we know. In this country many filters are packaged under known Brand names but are sourced from some very "wierd" locations. We are correct in assuming that their quality may be "weird" too!
The structure of the OEM filters is very robust and their operating components are all known quantities
The OEM filter's by-pass valve's opening pressure is 2.2bar, oil can spend a lot of tme being marginally filtered due to the period of time the oil is being by-passed within the filter. Some "pattern" filters have very low by pass settings. As well all anti-drain back valves are not built the same and some filtration media is of marginal quality
In a 928 the lubrication system's pressure as we know is very high with cold oil or with overly viscous hot oil - the filter needs to be built to handle these things and the OEM ones are
