Default Self-healing Flat

Has anyone ever had a self-healing flat? I'm puzzled (of course I'm going to have it pulled and inspected) by a tyre that was flat overnight but since I inflated it after that, it;s been fine.

I had one where if you parked it at the right rotation the weight of the car held the hole in the tread shut.
Have you been driving it since you inflated it?
Do you have kids in the neighborhood who might have let the air out?

Very creative thinking Aggravation ... no kids in my garage, and I have been driving.

Could you have scuffed the tire against something and broken the bead? Re-inflation may have re-set the bead.

Or the nail/screw has formed a tight seal where it pierced the tyre when re-inflated.

Which brand of tyre?

Bridgestone S03. I think the tyre is soft enough that it would possibly seal again ... and the bead ... no I don't think I did Ernie but it could be I suppose?

Are you still driving with S03s in recent weather?

When was the last time you checked air in the tire before it went flat? Sometimes the schrader valve doesn't seal all the way when you inflate or check pressure due to debris or age, then the next time you inflate the tire it seals fine. WYAIT replace the valve core, and look closely at the old one. You may see something amiss with the seal(or not).

Dave, good thoughts, mine exactly ... but the tyres were mounted on these rims about 2 months ago. Should be ok. The car did sit a weekend at an airport in the covered parking ... I hope I didn't drive all the way from Portland with a flat, but I reckon I would have felt it....

You would see scuffing around the edges of the tire & down the sidewall if you drove it seriously underinflated. Maybe a prankster let the air out?

Heinrich,

How about the little twisty thing inside the shrader valve (maybe that's the valve itstelf or the 'valve core' Dave was talking about). The one that you unscrew to quickly inflate/deflate. Maybe it's not tightened at all, but it just wiggled loose and then got seated.

One time after service on our van I noticed one was so loose it almost popped out from the pressure of the air. The guy that put it in just didn't tighten that one beyond finger tight. Could have taken a few weeks to work it's way loose enough to leak.

yeah I don't know ... but it is highly unlikely that I drove that far at those speeds with underinflation and didn't feel the pull to the left.

You drove all the way to P-town, and didn't deliver my belly pan?
