Default What year did they add electric hatch release?

My '81 looks like it has a motor, but there's no button for a release?

That would be a trick to get the rear wiper motor to do both jobs.

Before the electric release, how was the hatch opened? Cable pull?

Although I have no problems with mine, I've wondered why Porsche employed the electric release. Seems many people have had difficulties with it. I guess I should just be happy they didn't use an electric release for the hood!

the key to my 83 doesnt open the hatch, I'm assuming its the wrong key. It goes in but doesn't turn. I cant find any switches or levers to get the hatch open. Jumping the battery is quite a pain with the hatch closed

You may have the right key but the mech has been jammed from lack of use.

You might try pushing down on the hatch and see if that will allow you to turn the key.

If the hatch isn't 100% adjusted - you can often just give a quick pull on the lip and it will open without a key.

I think it’d be nice to have an electronic hatch release for my 78 too.

You wouldn't happen to have a parts list with discriptions of the items you used to do the job to yours?

Please share?

I've got no clue about part numbers, but just bought the dock and motor on ebay in germany - think I payed like $200. The only hazzard was enlarging the left side of the hole for the dock. Took power from wipermotor, and a friend of mine found a relay, that had perfect timing.... All ready had the switch from my interior upgrade...
