New 928 owner!
Hello all, I've just picked up a 1982 928s and driven it 300 miles home without any issues (so pretty pleased). The car has recently been resprayed in black, has Carrera Cup wheels and an S4 interior and GTS rear spoiler(so it looks the biz).
But, there are a couple of things that need attention:
1. The heater/climate control only blows hot air, doesn't matter what temperature you set it too, also there is no backlight to the controls so I imagine it needs a bulb replacing.
2. The passenger window sometimes works, most of the time doesn't. I'm thinking along the lines of replacing the switch?
3. The S4 seats that have been fitted cannot be adjusted electrically as they have not been wired in to the car. Will it be possible to wire them up easily?
4. The mileometer and trip mileage indicator are not working
Cheers for your help!

1. Constant hot air is probably the heater valve, either the diaphram is done for or the vacuum signal isn't there. You can wire it shut to check your a/c or during the summer months.
2. Most likely the switch.
3. Dunno about this, but when I put '89 seats in my '86 (similar controls but '89 had memory seats) I had to hotwire the seat to get it working.
4. Odometer gear is broken, you can get replacements on e-bay to fix this.

Welcome James,
300 miles is a nice piece of road. Good way to get to know your car, it must have been a blast.
There are two things you should get for your car before anything else: 1: Rennlist membership, and 2: WSM and Pet-6. Ok, that's 3, but you can get the WSM and PET-6 along with some other really cool stuff from Jim M. on a set of CDs.
It's the best investment you'll spend on your car.

Thanks for all your replies. I've ordered a workshop manual this evening so that should help me out with a few of the issues. Does anyone on here have a copy of the owners manual? (pdf, etc).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Larry the switch has 6 wires ; the red is incoming power , brown is incoming ground . There are four outgoing wires two to each motor . by reversing power and ground to a motor it runs forward and backward . You can simply attach two jumper wires one to the red and the other to the brown . Now you can touch the end of each of the two jumpers to any two of the out going wires . If touching them to two colors makes a motor run one way simply
reverse the two jumpers and it should run the other way . Not all combinations of two outgoing wires will make a motor run however , because you might be sending ground to one motor and power to another so write down which color wires "work" as you test be sure both motors run both directions . You may also buy the less expensive 928 613 182 00 forward switch and cut the wires and solder it in place for the rear switch since both of the switches are the same part BUT the attached wire harness is different giving it a different Porsche part # and price . It is worth noting that electric motors which can run both directions will not be "grounding" from the chassis so putting power to any of the wires going into the motor will not short out and blow fuses .

Do a search for "odometer" and "odometer gear" and you'll find all you need on that problem.
Jim928<at>ptd.net sells a great CD of the manuals and tech books and such. Cheap and worth twice the price. Been doing it for years, but I believe the latest and final version is due out any day.
Oh, and since your 82 is probably a Euro it's likely an interference engine. Read up on timing belts.
You've found the motherlode of 928 resources. Read the newbie thread at the top of the forum.
Have fun,

Big from Denmark, and welcome
Check for fluid in ac- system - turn on ac/set temp to cold, and see if ac-pump starts pulling - it's a magnet switch that automaticly disengage if no fluid pressure (= add)
New window switches, and it's easy to hook up the s4 seats, i've got gt-seats in my 78..

With a new car its best to start with a thorough inspection, usually a PPI pre purchase inspection, but you really do need to go over the car completely to make sure the previous owner didn't skip any important preventive maintenance.

With the dash illumination and electric window, start with the fuse board. Check the fuses and remove, clean and refit all fuses. This sorts out bundles of problems and was probably the best spent hour of shark maintainence I have yet done.
