Grade My TB Alignment
I turned my timing belt and lined it up about a dozen times last night, the tension was set, checked and rechecked. I haven't played with its alignment forward or back on the cam. It looks like I am on the mark on the timing, is it too far forward on the gears?

Hey Matt,
Glad you got back into it, I thought you were stuck waiting until after the holiday.
On the alignment, I hope it's not too far forward, because that's exactly what mine looks like. It looks perfect to me on the timing marks as well as alignment on the gears (and mine is running great now, so I think you're good).
Some of the pics I've seen show it lined up even closer to the front edge of all the gears and they were running fine, I think this looks good .

Shame about the trip, but it's good you got this far, you should be able to get it back together and running by then, no?
Did I mention mine was running great ? Seems like it's running smoother than it had been.
You might want to wait until someone with more than one tb/wp job under his belt chimes in, but I say 'go for it'.
BTW- I'd give you an 'A' for the alignment and an 'A' for the new cam gears, and a B+ for the photography, just because you don't have a beautiful model posing with the belt. You gotta have standards, right?

AFAIK, regarding fore/aft alignment, it just rides where it rides, and there is nothing you can do to change it, other than making sure all rollers, bearings, bushings are tight.

Belt position on the gears is highly dependent on the angle of the tensioner gear to the belt.

If you can, shoot a pic of the tensioner roller so we can see where the belt rides on it. It should be on the front edge but not over. The TDC alignment is perfect. The belt alignment looks OK, but it is further forward than it was before, judging by the wear marks on the gears. It may move back a bit after you start the car. It's probably fine.

I couldn't get a good pic, but here is what I got. From feeling with my finger, it feels like the belt is inside the edge of the roller by a hair. I turned it several more times and it tracks true. I guess I will start it up and take a look after 15 seconds or so and see if it has moved.

My belt tracks like yours on the cam gear and it's never moved in several thousand miles. I replaced everything in it's path except the cam gears and crank gear...which look good. Others told me that this is not unusual as long as it stays put and doesn't wander.
HOWEVER, I WATCH IT REALLY CLOSELY TOO...AND OFTEN.
