I presume most 928 purchases have an interesting story, and this one was no different.

As mentioned previously, I've been a longtime lurker and have stayed abreast of the market. One evening about six weeks ago I was doing my nightly "all things 928" internet scan when I saw this car advertised on AutoTrader. I knew I was looking at a rare specimen, what with the special order color and lack of side mouldings, and it was being offered at a very attractive price. To say I was excited was an understatement, as my pulse began racing and my breathing no doubt became short and shallow. My wife thought I was losing my mind, but bless her heart, she simply lacks the proper understanding and appreciation of what I was dealing with.

I immediately dispatched an email and followed up with a phone call first thing in the morning. I was fortunate to be the first to call, got the deposit placed and arranged for a PPI. Upon receipt of the satisfactory report and brief negotiation on price, the deal was done.

The hardest part was the week long wait before I could get up there and close the deal. Each day I nervously logged onto Rennlist, just knowing someone would post about it and all heck would break loose. I was most concerned about Todd (Low Miler), and to a lesser degree Brian Buxton, as relatively speaking the car was right in their backyard.

Fortunately, the car stayed under the radar until I could complete the acquisition. To the dealer's credit, they honored their commitment to me even after a number of people called wanting to buy the car, some of whom offered significantly more $$$ in attempts to get it (and no, Low Miler wasn't one of them).

Anyway, there are still good cars out there, so don't give up hope if you're looking for one. However, IMHO there has to be a certain amount of good luck involved in the search as well due to the diminishing pool of good examples. I feel very fortunate to have landed this one...

Bill and Iceman: 78K miles as we speak.

The Leland West insurance policy I took out limits me to 2500 per year, which shouldn't be a problem as she'll be a garage queen most of the time. However, when those sunny spring weekends return I'll be taking her out to stretch her legs!

A dealer with integrity. Amazing.

An S4 with no rubstrips. Awesome.

Huge Homes in OK built with Brick. How much (not your own, just give me a ball park so I can compare and contrast).

Your car is stunning. That was my favorite color from the moment I saw it. Someday my engine compartment will look like that. My wife's family lives in Tulsa and I expect we'll be paying them a visit sometime soon. If I have my way, we'll be driving the GT. Maybe our Velvets will have a chance to meet someday.

That's a great story. It's clear that this car has landed in some very appreciative hands, & sounds as though you've already established a significant bond with this car (GT, Brendan ) Nice looking car, Mike!

Brendan- PM sent.

Mike- I've followed your car for several years now, going back to when Doug Meredith owned it before Brent. I'm like you, it's my favorite color and your linen interior is sweet. If circumstances had been different I would have made a run at it last time it was for sale. It's nice to know it's in good hands. By all means drop me an email before you come to Tulsa. I'd love to have our car's picture taken together.

JPTL- I think you're right. I don't know any of the previous owners, but it certainly appears to have been well cared for. Whoever had it didn't mind spending money on her, as she got oil changes every 3-5k miles at the Porsche dealer! I won't be doing that, but will certainly give her lots of TLC.

Thanks and will do. I've always dreaded visits to the inlaws' before. This time, not so much. 928 ownership is a wonderful thing.
Oh, and thanks, J.P.

And, um, if any of my wonderful inlaws ever read this, I'm just kidding....no....seriously. I love you guys....really.

That's got to be one of the best looking sharks out there. Great find I know the feeling about the heart rate. It seems like your body knows you have made the decisiion before your head does.

Best of luck with her,

Jarrod,

Well done! And an excellent choice of model and year

Gorgeous color and beautiful shape too. You're right, those kind of deals are still out there if only you can be patient enough. Found mine over 6 years ago at the local Porsche dealer for a very fair price, one owner, PO purchased and had serviced at that dealer, only 64k miles. But timing sometimes IS everything. A friend of mine who knew I was looking just happened to drive by the dealer and saw it the day they put it out on the lot.

My only suggestion would be an update to newer 18" or 19" 5-spoke 997 wheels...
Really updates and improves the look of our cars... IMHO.

JWise,

That is a beautiful car! It's funny you mentioned it, and that I didn't pick it up. Ironically, I was informed it was coming in beforehand, but was to broke to buy it because I already have to '89 GT's in the stable. Otherwise, it might have been a different story. But nonetheless, it apparentely went to good hands and at a great price I might add!

Congratulations on such a beautiful GT (one of my favorite colors too!), and without side moldings..............bonus!

Going to more modern looking wheels is a good idea (except that CS GT wheels look great already) but the 18"/19" wheels do ride rougher I understand.

Going to a more modern looking wheel is a good idea for 3 reasons:
  1. Improvement in looks (significant)
  2. Improvement in handling (moderate)
  3. Preserving those Club Sports & keeping them curbrash-free by putting them in hermetically sealed storage for future generations ( )
