Stuck driver's seat
My driver's side seat is apparently stuck on just one of the rails. When I attempt to adjust the seat (forwards or, mostly, backwards) the adjustment motor runs and one side of the seat moves while the other stays still (resulting in the seat quickly becoming off-center and then stopping).
Any guesses as to what happened? Is something just stuck in one of the rails? Before I take a look at it, how am I going to access it if I can't move the seat back?
Thanks all,
Mark

the motor is in the front center of the seat it has two flexible cable driveshafts going to each side sometimes people reach under the seat to try to adjust the seat and pull one of the cables loose. You can also turn the cables by hand (vice grips) after disconnecting from the motor/trans turning one side then the other back and forth to move the seat.

The passenger seat in my car was stuck in the forward position, because the motor bevel gears had been stripped. I pulled the two cables from the motor and then used two drills chucked to the ends of the cables to move the seat. I was unable to get sufficient leverage with vice grips.

Problem solved- the left side driveshaft cable had simply fallen out and was lying on the floor under the seat!
Are they actually held in place by anything other than tension?

The little plastic "gear" is there only to allow you to strip its little teeth off with the manual crank. Don't worry about replacing it. The only reason you'd use it it is because the seat is stuck, and if the seat is stuck you can't use it.

oh, for some reason i was thinking that those gears functioned as part of the power seat system. you guys are saying that they dont have anything to do with the day to day use of the seat movement?
