Default '85 vs '86: Manual Tranny Flywheel and Torque Tubes The Same?

Hi,

For the manual tranny cars, does anyone know if the '85 flywheel is the same, or different then the '86 flywheel?

And same question for the torque tube: is the torque tube for the '85 and '86 the same part, or is it a different part.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ed

ps: trying to line up the parts for an auto to manual tranny swap, just trying to line up my ducks.

I just emailed you Ed, but this is what I found on the flywheels. They are indeed the same:

I have two separate messages in one thread saying that the 85 and 86 flywheels are the same, (Post number 7 from Jim Bailey, and Post #30 from Mark Kibort)
They both indicate what I suspected, which is that the 85 and 86 LH systems use the same teeth and flywheel.

Further, it seems 928intl agrees with this, since they sell the Flywheel for 85/86 as one part and number, (for a lot of money): http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...102%20078%2001

Another has Jim saying that the 85-86 systems use the same flywheel teeth:

One and same from '80½ to '95 other than there might not be vibration damper in some of them.

I see there is soem questions on auto to five speed conversions. Here is a link to my web site covering most of the differences in the years.

As far as the flywheel DEVEK has been making up hybrid flywheels to retrofit a dual clutch into the S4 up cars. They probably have enough 85-86 timing rings to make up a 87 single disk fluywheel for your 85-86. DO not know what the advantages are up migt work.
