Default odometer and shift indicator lights????

I need help with my odometer and shift indicator lights

We pulled the speedometer out of my 87 and replaced the gear which toast.

put everything back together and I still have no odometer. Can the gear that rides on the shaft for the speedometer be slipping?

Does any one have a write up on how to change the lights and which bulbs to use for the gear selector indicator

When the gear that goes, goes... it leaves pieces of itself everywhere inside the odo. You have to clean the hell out of it, make sure every gear and wheel is free of debris. Just a little turdlet of the old gear somewhere will cause it to stick.

Also,

Did you have any spare parts ?

Just kidding, when I put mine back together I spun the first dial to make sure everything was catching. You might want to make sure everything is interlocking correctly, it might just be on too loose or something.

When I did mine every thing was not engaging when I finished replacing the gear. I messed with it for 20 or 30 minutes before it began to engage continuously. I can't tell you what I did because I don't really know. Sometimes you just have to futz with things for a while before they are willing to cooperate. I know you don't want to hear that you need to take it apart again.

Pulling it out is not a biggie any way. The only tricky part is getting the needle off of the shaft, we used one of those tools that are for door panells that push in 2 directions when you squeeze them.

Thanks guys

Interesting; replaced the odo gear on my 85, all seemed well but then it quit working again, then just recently it started working again on its own.

That is why i am thinking it may be turning on the central shaft.
I guess I could try to pin it with maybe a part of a paper clip and drill a hole with a pin vise and a small drill bit.
