Default Where can a get a trailer hitch?

Looking for a hitch for my 82. I just need to tow a 13' Whaler on occassion. Manual says she can tow over 3k but I would be about 1000lbs max. I googled but to no avail.

You might want to try German ebay - that's the only place where I have seen them. Try copying and pasting the following search words:

"Porsche 928 Anhängerkupplung"
"Porsche 928 Hängerkupplung"

Before you bid, make sure the seller ships worldwide and gives you a shipping estimate.

Also, make sure they have a mode of payment that you can deal with. In Europe, bank transfer is the norm, as it is cheap and efficient - they don't usually send checks around. Some sellers have PayPal, but many don't like it because of the fees.

I think I've only seen one, ever. Someone was going to make a print of itfor reproductions, but I never heard much after that. Some people have used the tow hook as a platform to weld a ball on with success, but I'm not sure that Kosher in the DOT's eyes.

Use the search button and see what comes up.

Europe would cost a small fortune to ship from unfortunately. I have a jeep Liberty CRD that I tow with but it is nice to have one on both cars just in case I need it or wife won't let me take her Jeep ;(.

I thought about making one at one time for the '81.

AFAIK, the factory bar requires you to cut two holes in the bumper cover, one large one for the bar, and one for the connector. (S4 bumper covers have patterns on the back side to show where to cut).

The side plates fit over (under?) the bumper shocks/impact tubes. What I can't figure out is how the rear part attaches. The thin part fits between the battery box and the gas tank, and I think the bar clamps around the crossmember, but I'm not sure.

There's also a wire harness/connector. In the pod, there's a [<= =>] trailer signal light.

Attaching to the bumper doesn't seem like the best idea, but for a 1000lb load it would probably be fine.

Those are actual pics I posted of the tow hitch I used to have on my 928 way back when I towed my race bikes. OEM jobby, the last one ever made. I still have it stored somewhere.

I have made one like that referenced by Randy in his previous post. Use it to pull a small trailer (like the one shown in the pictures) to and from the tracks for DE's. The trailer (Harbor Freight in my case), two tires/wheel, and a good sized tool box probably weigh 700-800 lbs. I never even know it is attached, and have taken it to tracks that are as far as ~1000 miles away from home. I plan to construct another one for my GTS, so I can pull a small trailer to and from the home supply places (don't have a pickup truck). Cheers, and biggiefl if you want further "plans", let me know via an e-mail.

Not true, these hitches usually sell for about 1,000 bucks in German ebay so in comparison the shipping charge is small.

As Brian said, I have one modeled after the one Adam posted and it works fantastic for small loads. I, like Gary, have a Harbor Freight small trailer and tow my track tires, and other equipment to the track and back. Had it now for over 4 years and not one problem. I do highly recommend upgrading the wheel/tires to the larger ones they sell for the trailer. The trailer chains are hooked to the rear tow hook when the trailer is attached. The spring loaded plate is a cool feature to the whole execution and I have returned to my track car to find a few pairs of legs poking from under the rear bumper figuring out how I installed the tow hitch so they could do the same to their Porsches.

Hope that helps,
Constantine
