Well, BD-5 type rating?
-The point is that you need to have a special FAA endorsement added to your pilot licence to fly this airplane, since it is turbojet powered. This is called a "type rating"; I have one for the 727 and the 747. But I do not have one for the BD-5 shown, so other than "demonsration" flights I cannot fly it, other than with a properly instructed and current flight instructor. That's right- I wouldn't be able to fly my own aircraft.
Q: Would Normy roll the thing?

Given that the 928 is on stands and the plane's in pieces, my guess is BrendonC

Not so Norm,
I’m not sure on the specifics, you would have to check with the FAA under “Experimental Aircraft Designation”, but there has been private pilot “Joe blows” flying these for years her in Canada.
I guess they are all "demonstration" flights as the flight endurance is probably less then 15 min operation, and payload is your lunch, and bladder. Not much of a commercial cross country operation.
I am also doubtful that a BD-5 type rating exists, and if so, I don’t think that it would directly correlate to turbojet operation. BTW this BD design is built as either turbojet, or pusher prop. That, and it is hard to get instruction when there is only one seat. Guess for the first flight you just pop in your quarter and hang on while trying to stay out of the trees.
Ca-mon Normy, if your car keys are not stuck to the top of the canopy, you aren’t having fun yet.
This guys OB is on jacks, so maybe he has been looking in here for tech help?
Anyone know this car?

Can't remember whether it's a BD-5 or BD-10 (Coors commmercial). One of them used an engine from a cruise missile (if I remember correctly). But I think it only lasts 10 hours. could be totally off - almost 20 years ago.

Looks like a BD-5 to me... As I recall the BD-10 looked more like an F-5 type fighter. This one could be prop or jet powered.
BTW, Happy Thanksgiving all!!

If and when finished, this would certainly be classified as an Experimental aircraft by the FAA. No type certificate required, just a lot of confidence for that first flight. I think I read somewhere that fewer than 10% of these kits actually get finished to the flying stage by the first owner.

The 928 appears to be an OB with an automatic transmission since it has 15" phone dials. The plane looks interesting but I don't like anything smaller than a T-39.

I believe type ratings were to be PIC over 12,500 lbs regardless of powerplant?
