My experience...

I installed the 42mm 6 LED festoon from Superbrightled.com in the interior courtesy lights. They fit fine, just requiring minimal bend in to tighten the fit, but the 6 LED white light is not as bright as the stock lighting. I think the 9 LED, only available as 44mm, will better match the stock brightness and will fit OK with minimal bend back of the tab, so I just ordered them. I do like the white light. It matches up nicely with the electroluminescent light I just installed in the door sill. It's fun to pimp my ride.

All the LED Festoon bulbs I have fitted to my car (not supplied by Nicole) have failed within 9 months. Anyone else have similar problems?

I've had one festoon fail so far. Glad I bought one extra.

Yes! They all started out fine, within a few weeks started blinking then eventually burned out. Got them from one of the ebay stores mentioned earlier in this thread.

Giving the LED's one more try with the set that Jager sells. It's been 3-4 months now and they are still working perfectly.

Ive had the interior, door edge, license plate and front sidemaker lights converted to LED from superbrightleds.com for 6-10 months. All are still working.

Default AutoIllumination.com (aka CTIllumination) Caveat Emptor

If you in the market for LED bulbs for your 928, I'm compelled to warn you of CT Illumination http://autolumination.com/
I received marginal product and subsequently, poor customer service from them. The story is long and drawn out, but after using the Better Business Bureau to mediate, I found no resolution. They would not even respond to my BBB complaint and will not answer my emails. Also to note, they have other unresolved complaints with the BBB.

To review BBB complaint filed againt CT Illumination

BBB reliability report on CT Illumination

I'm only out $75, but to me it was about principle and ethics. I recommended them in the past, but will never recommend them again. I feel it's important to let you all know.

4. HVAC control head-- #74 wedge base, wide angle (flat head). Not perfect, because it's a little dim, and provides little light to the sides to illuminate the fiber optic threads for fan speed and sliders. There's a 3 led, #74 from www. autolumination.com that may work better than the single, wide angle bulb.
5. door marker lights (the red squares on the trailing edge)--BA9 bulb

I've done everything in red, and I like it.
hiya,

im in the process of replacing the bulbs in the door jamb. Do I need to do any sort of conversion to install the red bayonet LED? Or is it just a plug and play?

id like to reduce the overall electrical load on my 81- as the wiring and car gets older.
I wanted to run LEDs on the exterior side markers, turn signals, brake lights, and front fog lights.
I assume this will trigger constant warnings on the light monitor?

No front lights are monitored. Only the brakes & rear/side markers are monitored. However you will also need an LED compatible flasher module or the flash speed will be too high.

So brakes & rear markers will give you warnings if you change them.

I've been doing LED research also, and I've seen where the cruise control also works through the rear brake lights, so the cruise may not work either.

The big drains on the lights come from the headlights and driving lights. The driving lights pull close to the low beam headlights on their own. Just replacing those with LED will in my opinion give you the most bang for the buck. FYI flash to pass will no longer work if you make this change.

I found passive cooling LED's that fit the driving lights...I didn't find there was really room for fan cooled bulbs in there.

Confirmed. At least on brake light activated bulb will need to stay incandescent in order to maintain cruise functionality. Most folks address this by leaving the raised brake light in the rear window incandescent. For the bulbs that are 'managed' by the bulb control module, this thread would be super helpful.

When replacing bulb on the front facing lights (headlights, Aux, and Fog) it's good the match the color intensity for all the bulbs. So when you are shopping pay attention to those. There are many options available for the headlights but fewer bright options for the fog/Aux (H3 bulbs) I have tried numerous and
these bulbs these bulbs
seems to be the closest in lumen brightness of the H3 haloogen.

Yes a LED flasher relay (3 prong) will reduce the flash speed to something more normal, but still not quite perfect.

CF13GL-02 LED Bulb Electronic Flasher 3 Pin

But if you are similarly OCD to myself and want the perfect flash interval you can get an adjustable LED flasher as well

I have found that in my 1988 and 1992 cars that I need to also replace the turn signal indicator in the dash with a LED bulb otherwise the indicator is very dim.

Interiors Lights: Another good one is to replace all the interior lights (and door jams) so you dont drain your battery working on your car. You can color match the original light quality by choosing "warm white" color temperature to maintain that incandescent glow. I see some comments on failed bulbs but I have installed three sets in cars and have not had any failed from superbirght.

3710 LED Bulb - 6 SMD LED Festoon - 38mm Warm White (overhead and footwell lights)

BA9s LED Bulb - 1 LED - BA9s Bulb Red 120 Degree 12V (doors)

DE3175 LED Light Bulb - (4) SMD LED Festoon Bulb - 3022 Base Warm White 5630 SMD (glovebox)

Side markers lights: I found these bulbs to illuminate the US side marker lenses well and they come in red and amber
