I would consider myself a 928 Mechanic right now. I hope to rejoin the "driver" group very soon. Dropping the Engine, TT, and Trans out all at once from the 86. Shove it over into the other garage bay, disassemble, and put the engine on a stand.

I want a leather interior, low sound levels, and comfort. But I want more bolster then the stock seats make. And I, uh, need it a little, um, wider.
Hey Brendan,

I do indeed convert comfort seats into sport seats. You have to understand that although the conversion will give you exactly the same support as the factory sport seats, you will not be saving any weight, as all the power functions of the comfort seat remains.

I do have manual cores also for those who want true sport seats.

The way the conversion is done, it would be very easy to adjust the width of the seat (within reason).

I can't go into many details right now, but I will be offering a group buy for the seats around the end of the year. Both traditional piping and French seam design will be included as well as the sport conversion.

ROG100 and I are trying to set up a sort of mini show/tech session for you guys on the west coast, that would give us the opportunity to both deliver and install some of the parts that were ordered. That would also give you guys in California the opportunity to see first hand what I do.

I will post an official thread and add details as they become available

Lemme see, um, do I want something shipped from Thailand by someone I don't know, but whose product looks okay, or do I want something from an acknowleged artist whose work is better than factory, customizable, reasonably priced, is on the Rennlist and who has done his own 928 at a level of quality to die for.
Hmmmm, tough choice!

My plan, (I will continue to go WAY off topic as its my thread) is to have a real, well-optioned 928 that my wife will actually enjoy riding in it WITH me, and my son in the back. I think that may involve headed seats. Even in San Diego, anyway. I think I had that and destroyed it, but thats another story for another time. I've grown up I guess. Nearly 30. I like the idea of a manual core at least for me, but I understand that heated seats don't come usually on the manual frames. Is this true? Would it be hard to make a heated manual sport seat? Jesus, and how much would THAT cost. Well, couldn't be much more then the 1600 dollars I think I spent for my cobra racing seats.

I have two quite rough seats from the 86 that I can take parts from, but the motors barely move, so the heaters may be the only things salvagable.

Brendan,

heaters live in the seat inserts and need to be sewn in. They are independent from the rest. So yes, you can have heated sport seats. But I need the elements on hand while making the seat inserts.

I can do that. Ah, the second to last bastion of the 928 I haven't disassembled yet. The seats. Heh. The other? The transmission. Thats soon.

Paul:

When you do the sport seat conversion, if the seats are in excellent condition and I went with traditional piping, do you need to replace all the leather or just the bolsters?

Hey Bill,

I could salvage the inserts and the back panel of each seat, but the rest would need to be replaced.
That would save you a bit on material, but much of the labor, especially for the seat bottom remains the same.
If your covers are in good shape, it would probably be more economical to replace them completely and sell the old covers.
It's easy to remove the covers without damaging them.

Hey Brian,

thanks for posting the pictures
I didn't forget about your shifter boot by the way. I'm just catching up on my backlog right now.
