Default info please - 85/86 32v injectors

I have never seen a US 85/86 32v car or its European equivalent, so I have a few questions....

1) I understand the fuel injectors (24#) are different physically to the ones fitted to the >87 cars - is this correct ?

2) How are the injectors retained at top and bottom ? What type of fittings ?

3) What alternative larger # injectors are available that will fit ?

Hi John,

I don't think there is a difference...I use the same 30# injectors on my 86.5 as Tony on his 87.

They are retained the same. The top is slides into the rail and secured by clips and the bottom stays put due to the down force of the rail mounted.

Bill (koenig928) installed 42# injectors with the help of your sharktuner

Someone please correct me if I'm missing something

An alternative would be Ford Motorsport (Bosch made), adding correct lower seals.

Thanks Darien/Bill. That's just what I wanted to hear.

The reason for the questions is that we are working on the SharkTuner for 85/86 and we need to know what injector sizes are available.

Certainly the Euro 16v injectors are different, and I don't know what larger options there are for those ?

The Keonig is based on a >87 car, isn't it ?

Yes, the 2v EFI injectors have inlet nipples: only an injector specialist could advise on other sizes.

The '85-86 are normal Bosch high-impedance injectors, @ 24lbs. The S4 injectors (also high-imp.)are identical in size, yet require a thicker o-ring at the nipple to seat in the S4 intake manifold: Ford motorsports injectors work in both 85-86 (no changes needed: direct drop-in for 24lb, 30lb, 42lb), and in the '87-95 as long as you source a new OEM nipple o-ring for those injectors for the S4 manifold.

Hi John,

I was just going to point you towards Kevin's thread, but you got there all on your own. Call Allen at Dr. Injector. He told us that he could source many different size injectors for all MYs. Tell him Leslie sent you!

Thanks to all for their very helpful replies. I think we have enough info for what we need at present.

Lots of work to do :-)
