Is the thing in the box next to pass seat an amp?
(81 USA 928 auto)
I took that cover off between seat and sill and found a little thing that looked more like something on a water heater than a stereo amp, but I seem to recall people saying an amp should be there. Anyone? If I had pics, I would post.
If it's not, where is it?

What sort of connections does it have?

That's the check oxygen sensor warning light [OXY] clock.
Your car may not have had the amp option, or it was removed at some point after an aftermarket stereo was put in, for example.

The pwr amp is below the passenger seat; what you uncovered is a control box but I can't remember what for (for later cars anyway).

My understanding...
It's the control box for cooling.... it takes information from temp sensors, whether the A/C is on etc... then controls the cooling flaps (S4) and sends signals to the fan controller...

I found the amp underneath the driver's side of dash, and I only have that weird transformer there. Looks like it came out of a guitar amp.

Scott, it's not a fan control unit, not on an 81. Is there anything printed on the case? Can you post a pic?

The transformer is a noise filter for the missing(?) amp. There's one under the console for the radio, too.
