How much have you hauled in your 928?
Since I just got my car back a few weeks ago, after driving out to Sharktoberfest and then showing it at our local PCA Phoenix Flight concour, I decided to "get back on that horse" and participate in the Zone 8 autocross that goes along with Flight. "Getting back on that horse" is because one year ago at the Flight autocross is where all my motor "issues" began...
Anyway, since I also realised a 20+ year dream and now have dedicated track wheels and tires, instead of driving on the new Kuhmo V700's to the event (which I know I can do), I thought I'd try and see if I could get them all in the car.
Not only did I get all four wheels/tires in the car, I also managed to fit in an EZ-Up, tool bag, small floor jack, folding chair, small cooler, helmet and a few other misc. items. My wife couldn't believe it and had to come out and take a look. I should have taken a picture, but didn't. Next autocross, I will.
I remember reading in one of the original 928 S4/GT sales brochures about the carrying capacity was such that you could haul home a "small childs antique dresser" or something like that!

I just KNEW that was going to be one of the replies... and it is appropriate
Actually, that's exactly what I did at the autocross after I unloaded everything and bolted up those wheels and new sticky tires!!!

Back when I was young and dumb, and driving a leased car, I bought 29 bags of water softener salt each weighing 40 lbs, and put it in a 944. Somewhere around bag twenty it dawned on me that it was a really stupid thing to do, but for one night I owned a 944 lowrider. Speedbumps were not kind, but otherwise I made it home without incident, and apparently the car was fine and hopefully I am now smarter not just older.
My bet is that Porsche designed these cars to hold a set of tires.

And nice to know as I'm hoping to take my shark to a few DE's and track days. Sounds like a good list of items to cram into the car.
I wish you had taken a few pics though, as when I picked up some 18" wheels/tires for my '85, I had a heck of a time fitting them in the car, along with my Porken lift bars. I ended up putting one of the larger rear wheels in the front seat with me.
I was short on blankets to protect the interior though, so that would have made it easier. I was a bit paranoid about scratching up my dash and door panels, so had one arm holding on to the rear wheel in the passenger seat the whole ride home (thank goodness for an automatic for that ride!).
Ok, who is going to produce a computer generated rendering of the best way to load all this stuff into a 928? And please keep in mind the drivers seat has to be allll the way back (I'm 6'6").

Ed, this won't be computer generated, but I think you'll get the idea...
BTW, it did take me a couple of tries to get it all in! First off, I put each wheel/tire in a 33(?) gal. trash bag to help protect the wheels and the interior. Then, I loaded the two fronts upright in the passenger seat, a little tricky with the bolsters, but once both are in, you can move the seat forward, shut the door, and they aren't going anywhere.
Put the rear seat backs down next and loaded the two rears flat on the rear deck in-line behind the drivers seat (Ed, because you need the drivers seat further back, you may need to use the passenger side, I couldn't because the PO had a CD changer/amps mounted there). Next, I put the EZ-Up next to the tires and slightly between the front seats, but not iterferring with the shifter. Then I just filled in available areas with tool bag, cooler, helmet and last layed the floor jack on top of the tool bag so it was "nested" in a little. Didn't want the jack moving around!!
FWIW, my tires/wheels are 245/45/17 on 8" 993 Cups front and 255/40/17 on 9" 993 Cups rear. Ed you mentioned 18" wheels, but O.A. diameter should be pretty close (25" +/-) with most 928 fitments, but really WIDE tires might make things a bit more cozy!!... but still should be able to fit...

All the items necessary including soft drinks, 10 bags of ice, 2 50lb bags of charcoal, all food and utensils for a picnic for 60 people. Fits perfectly as long as I put the rear seats down. Do it every May. And I don't slow down in the twisties getting to the picnic area.

Me, one wife, her purse and tote bag,
luggage for ~3 weeks on the road (2 soft-side suitcases),
Boise Parade(2002) tote bag, holding camera, laptop, etc,
(1/2 cub.ft)small cooler;
tool bag with selected spare stuff (relays, fuses etc);
2 collapsible chairs, a blanket;
2 sport bags (1 ea. for food and 'souvenirs');
assorted maps, books, snacks and 'junk' in glove box,
map shelves and door pockets;
jackets, sweaters, my rain gear;
or, in other words, one third of our worldly goods.
(& we still get ~21 mpg at or 'near' posted speed limits)
G'luck, all.

I also think there are other 928ers who have gone camping in the 928!

Drifting
Hijack alert.
This reminded me to ask a question about the rear shocks.
The other day, I was leaning on the back quarter of my car as I was filling it up with gas, from almost empty to full. I noticed the the rear of the car lowered quite a bit as it filled up. Is this normal or are my shocks suspect?
Also, The most I've hauled in my 928 was 1 suitcase, 1 gallon of McAllister's Sweet Tea, and 20 12 packs of Pepsi on 1 trip, or 2 volleyball carts and 8 bags of volleyballs with 6 ***** in each on another trip.
