My record so far is 5 adults + some luggage. Wasn't a long trip.

In my 928 I have packed a tent, a sleeping bag and foam pad, camping equipment including a propane two burner stove, propane bottles, misc cooking utensils, cookware and bowls, food for two weeks ( I consume lots of food since I am a vegan and eat lots of veggies and fruit), 6 tarps, shotgun and ammo, flares, tools for camping including shovel, hammer, stakes, light rope, EZ UP, 3 gallons of water, propane lantern, CD case carrying 30 CDs, blankets, suitcase full of clothes, boots, hats, jacket, suit, coveralls, car cover, auto tools, jumper cables, spare parts, umbrella, and some other crap I manage to shove into small spaces. And I still manage to see out of all windows.

If you are married, you KNOW you can get a lot of luggage in a 928. Kinda glad I can't get more in.

I regularly haul my store inventory to the 928 events. Well, not all of it, but the trunk gets very full. Then there is luggage for the trip, etc...

After lowering the two rear seats and moving the front passenger seat forward, I was able to haul a set of four 17" wheels and tires. There was plenty of room left over for smaller stuff.

A new bath tub 180cm * 80cm plus new taps, a set of feet for the bath assorted tiles, tile cement and some tools.

Have to admit the hatch would not close; I had to tie it down - handy those little hook things on the hatch floor for the luggage net

My wife reminded me a few years back on the Newfoundland Dog list, some guy from the UK IIRC commented that he packed in 3 Newfs and his wife in his 928! Anyone on the list?

The setup was interesting too... the biggest Newf sat in the front passenger seat (not unusual as the dog could be larger than his wife, our male is 155 lbs.), his wife and another Newf in the back seats and the third Newf laying down on the rear deck! I have the 3 Newfs to try it, but don't think my wife is willing!

BTW, it did take me a couple of tries to get it all in! First off, I put each wheel/tire in a 33(?) gal. trash bag to help protect the wheels and the interior. Then, I loaded the two fronts upright in the passenger seat, a little tricky with the bolsters, but once both are in, you can move the seat forward, shut the door, and they aren't going anywhere.

Put the rear seat backs down next and loaded the two rears flat on the rear deck in-line behind the drivers seat (Ed, because you need the drivers seat further back, you may need to use the passenger side, I couldn't because the PO had a CD changer/amps mounted there). Next, I put the EZ-Up next to the tires and slightly between the front seats, but not iterferring with the shifter. Then I just filled in available areas with tool bag, cooler, helmet and last layed the floor jack on top of the tool bag so it was "nested" in a little. Didn't want the jack moving around!!

FWIW, my tires/wheels are 245/45/17 on 8" 993 Cups front and 255/40/17 on 9" 993 Cups rear. Ed you mentioned 18" wheels, but O.A. diameter should be pretty close (25" +/-) with most 928 fitments, but really WIDE tires might make things a bit more cozy!!... but still should be able to fit...
Excellent! I love these cars! -Ed

ps: you guys are cracking me up with your stories.

Shocks don't support any "real" weight, the springs do that. Shocks resist rapid movement by forcing the oil inside through small holes in the piston as it moves up and down.

We haul 2 sets of clubs plus weekend luggage evaral times a year, plus all the 'spoils' frome every Outlet Mall along the way... A couple small coolers, laptop and camera bags, a small toolkit (maybe the size of a purse), and a BIG bottle of Advil. Tail of the car droops a bit but somehow we make it without problems.

FWIW, she'd rather take her 4-Runner on these trips. Says the 928 seats are too narrow for her. Go figure.

In the 86.5: 10 x 40lb bags of mulch + 2 x 25lb bags of creek stone + 2 x 25lb bags of sand. That was before I bought the Mitsubishi Montero.

Routinely on the way to the cabin:

2 sets of golf clubs and shoe bags
one golf pull cart
5 gallon drinking water jug
one or two coolers of food
cleaned laundry from prior weekend
clothing
laptop and briefcase
spoils of one Costco stop (each item a lifetime supply!)
beer - a dozen
wine - 4 to 8 bottles

Often added:

sail bags and other sailing gear

Oh yeah....Sheryl is in there somewhere too!

Sometimes requires some preplanning to fit it all in. Never appreciable adverse affect on ride or handling.
