Default Projekt 928 Book - current value

I have an opportunity to buy a Projekt 928 book that is in near new condition, but it has the dust cover missing. What would you guys say is a such book worth? What should be deducted for the missing dust cover?

I looked on Amazon.com, and all that's listed there is beyond $400 for the English edition in used condition. Are people actually paying such prices for these books?

Thanks!

Wow thats allot for that book.

I remember hearing that the Carrera RS book covering the 2.7 RS which is apparently a very rare book would fetch that kinda money. Good thing is though that you would probably get back what you paid for it anyway. Obvioulsy they will just become harder and harder to get, unless they uncover a missing truck full of them that was discovered from a 1980 heist or something and flooded the market with 50,000 new books. VERY UNLIKELY

The only collectible book I own, we lost the dust jacket for and seems to have turned it into a reading copy as far as value goes. I would expect no dust jacket to knock out a good 50%, and eliminate a good percent of buyers.

WOW, Biblio.com shows a VG+ copy for $1200. I suggest you talk to somebody knowledgeable in books specifically, but I am in the same town and have done business with the Bookman.com for more than 20 years, and when it comes to book value, they make offers don't give advice.

When books get real pricey used, if the publisher still has rights a reprinting can happen. There are also specialty publishers that do very limited runs of expensive books, but those are sometimes even more expensive.

I paid $300 for 1st English edition recently and think it was good buy. Deal included dust cover (with some tears) and Paul Champagne's custom cover. I think I could get same out of it from eBay quite easily. Having dust cover do have large effect in value. I also have 2nd printing without it and in general much rougher condition. I would not expect to get more than $150 for it. Yours being nearly new condition does make it more attractive. Maybe even over $250 in eBay. With perfect dust cover perhaps up to $500.

What we should do as a group is to try to have http://www.velocepress.com do limited reprint of it. They are doing many other automotive books. Some of which are virtually impossible to find under $500 in any condition. Having reprint done doesn't even seem to affect value of the originals, almost contrary.

I am all for a reprint and would pony up the $ if we can get it done I would even be interested in a scanned copy in pdf if possible. Is there any place someone can see the pages from book online?

$300 for a good condition copy (with dust cover) is pretty typical, though as Sterling mentions, they can be found for less.

hello Nicole,

A few years ago, my wife gave me a copy for my birthday...she found it on ebay for $114. It took her over 4 years to find / win the book.

Over the last 3 years, I have found 4 copies in various used book stores. Each book was in good condition and purchased for under $15 each. Each one was listed on ebay ($15 opening bid, no reserve) and sold for $160 - $220.

So in my opinoin, if I did not have a copy of the book, I would not pay more than $175.

Good luck on your search.

Regards,
Roger

Used books stores are getting a lot more savvy, plus Amazon et al make it pretty easy to set up shop online and just take their cut.

OTOH many times if you walk in a shop and wave money the deal is much much cheaper than online where its more a line in the water and hope. Especially if the shop has more than one copy.

Hi Nicole!

I bought such book (German version) last year from ebay in a good condition, I was quite lucky and paid around 55 Euros (including the dust cover). You can find these books from time to other between 50 and 90 Euros here in Germany. If you want I could have an eye on it and give you a hint...

see you
Holger

Hmmm... A German version as part of the collection. That might be an interesting addition, as some detail of the stories always gets lost in translation.

I already have one English version, with both the dust cover and fancy cover from Paul Champagne. I was just trying to find out, if the one offered to me on the weekend was a good investment.

Thanks, everybody!
