TB & WP Party in Double Oak Dec 9th & 10th
If anyone would like to come to a Timing Belt and Water Pump party at my place on the above weekend you will be most welcome.
So far we have 3 candidates for the work and the more the merrier.
Our local experts will be on hand to supervise the work and help you through all aspects of the process.
Once I know who will be coming we can get a group buy together of all the necessary parts we will need. I will coordinate that and ensure we also have spares available should the need arise.
You may need to bring some tools and jack stands or ramps depending on how many show up.
Plenty of beer and sodas plus the usual run out for SubWay sandwiches.
I will also post this on the local DFW site.
Please let me know who is participating and the year of the car.
I have the required flywheel locks and cam belt tensioner gauge.
So far I have: -
Ed Hughes 1991 S4
Jim Mayzurk 1993 GTS
Chuck Schreiber 1979 OB
Anyone else who just wants to come for the fun is most welcome.

A mass timing belt party - only Dr. bob and Roger would attempt such a feat. I do not have the nerve or administrative skill to try to put together something like this. It amazes me to even think about it.

How about synchronized TB parties?
I'm overdue for my 'baptism by fire' (my first TB/WP) and should have the parts ready by then. I'll be working on it on the East Coast while you guys are under the hoods in the great state of TX.
Will you all have internet access while you work on them?

Mike,
Sounds like a plan - we could look at setting up a web cam at both ends.
Is that weekend good for you?
Maybe we can set a World Record.
Bill,
With all your expertice we would love for you to join in as a supervisor/tech help by phone or web cam?
How about it?
Best,
Roger

Cool,
That weekend looks good for me right now.
I'll see if I can get one set up at my end. 'Fraid I don't have room for more than one car in my garage though or I'd invite more to join on site.

You know, I've said all along we should try for the Guiness book or something. Maybe if we told them we'll actually drink some Guiness' while doing it will spark some interest.
The coast-coast wired aspect is totally cool. If we pull this off, we need to alert the automotive press/media.
(Roger-I've got "all" of my parts already. I'll let you know what I have to make sure I've got it all covered.)

I have nothing planned for that weekend. I can bring my home made VW 387 tool for those who want to get really down and dirty for cam timing/advance/retard. This will add about 1.5 to 2 hours to each TB/WP swap.
Sterling, bring your stubby universal joint cam cover bolt remover special tool just in case. I think that should be the official name.

Mike,
Where do I get one of these 'stubby universal joint cam cover bolt remover special tools'?
I'm a little nervous about going worldwide on my first TB/WP, especially since I'll be flying solo. Maybe I can just do something creative with the camera angle, how does everyone feel about the plumber view?

I think Sterling and Rog should start selling them. I'll let Sterling give you the details, but basically he cut down a hex allen wrench and epoxied it into a small universal joint or something like that. I haven't seen it in action, but it should make getting the few tough to get at cam cover bolts out a breeze.
