I have a question about this camshaft issue, is this with 88 cars predonimantly? What gives 4 88's and another Rennlister with an 88 having the same problem?

Jim you mentioned the problem being that 3 armed "hub" as being the cause for broken camshafts, care to expand on that? I had never heard of this issue, but i am relatively new to the 928 scene, was this also something that was fixed in later production, i am just curious why so many 88's have this problem.

Nicobel sorry to hear about your problem, i guess you would have needed more then just a short block, it looked like a nice car.

The hub is the same 1985-1995 seldom gets looked at since it hides behind the cam gears and sometimes cracks then breaks ...

Good question Ryan................I was wondering the same and was about to start a thread 'maintenance to be done that if missed shall kill the car, dead'.

Since it is used on all those years and models there's the same potential for camshaft failure?

Malcom

yeah this probably should be on another thread, this is one of those topics that is potentially very valuable for allot of people but most may not read it as its under the heading of a parts car. I can recall allot of good tidbits of information that are in threads of completely different topics.

actually i guess that makes a good arguement for doing a search of entire threads not just thread topics which is what i usually do when doing a search.

Someone might want to post a topic on "preventive manintenance" including all those tidbits, this would help keep more sharks alive and less tears on ex-owners eyes.
