Default Post Sharktoberfest 2006 Thread

Here's some pictures from Saturday. Didn't get quite as many pictures as I had hoped, but here ya go! (if anyone wants a pic, I have original high res pics from my friend's Canon EOS20D).

A GTS... obviously:

Self-explanatory:

Another picture of the Ferrari:

A line of 928s:

Someone's clean engine bay:

A very clean GT (IIRC). Might have been Seth's previous car?:

Had to throw one of these in for good measure:

That's the Koenig thing. Quite possibly one of the most radically modded street 928s there:

The Koenig Thing, Part 2:

Bill used Bill's car to demo the SharkTuner:

At the base of San Gabriel Canyons:

Another Angle:

From behind:

Another Angle:

Last one, I promise:

There was a small incident in the twisties. Everyone is OK:

I'll keep quiet about what happened:

I'll bet the owner of this car is going to want the original... Very nice shot!:

Last but not least:

This was my first SF, and it was great! Seeing 100+ sharks in one place is kind of overwhelming- it's like one's first Vegas review show (or that's what they tell me...... I got to put a lot of faces with (internet) names, and enjoyed watching Bill Ball fix anything and everything people put in front of him.

The fun run was awesome! I counted 26 928's, a pair of very un-stock sounding E36 Bimmers and a very speedy (and clean!) 944 Turbo. Dr. Bob and I did a run up the Angeles Crest in September, but I would say that today's course (gotta zoom out a bit) trumps the Angeles Crest. Up route 39 out of Azusa, to East Fork Road, to Glendora Ridge Road, to Mt. Baldy Road. Just an amazing route, with million dollar views of the San Gabriel mountains (not that I took my eye off the road for more than a second....) Now I know where to take my Dad and scare him silly the next time he's in town.

Regarding the 'incident', there were some corners with dirt and gravel near the apex (there were many areas with recent/ongoing roadwork), and it caught one car whose tail came out and he drifted wide into the berm- we all stopped to assess his car, and he eventually continued on under his own power. I last saw him headed west on I-10 on the way home. I managed to get stuck in the Saturday night crush on the 57 south but all in all it was a great day. I will absolutely be back next year- hopefully by then I can open my hood without great pangs of intake inferiority complex.....

Default PS:

Whose black S4 with the Phd-MD license plate? I'm a mud-phud too and was bummed to see I can't take that vanity plate! (I kid, I kid.....)

I used to do that drive all the time in my CRX when I was a college student in SoCal. The East Fork of the San Gabriel River has wild trout, and is the closest good creek fishing to O.C. I'd head out about 5 AM on Saturday mornings with my gear. Man, that's a great road. I forgot that driving it was half of the fun on those fishing trips. Especially since I hardly ever caught anything.

You didn't mention that the other side of the berm was a 1000 foot drop.

Really funny you should mention that... Just as the last few 928s went off to claremont, I spotted a couple acura RSXs and a CRX making their way up. My friend and I decided to follow them up for a second run. The CRX was quite quick, he had a B16 swap and suspension (we stopped to talk w/ them)... but I think FWD was holding him back as he couldn't lose us.

the green e36 has lowering springs and is bone stock otherwise
the blue e36 has intake/exhaust

I want to thank Bill Ball publicly for not only helping tension my TB but with also helping a Newbie with his. Bill continually goes out of his way for people and I want him to know it is appreciated. He is the MAN!
I also want to thank Bill for re-enacting the smokey burnout down the street after 95 percent of you guys left the lot. It was done with the same style and grace, even after all the cops we had hanging out.
Glendor Mtn. road is one of the best roads in southern California. I have been shooting and driving on it for 20 years. Didn't do the drive so I could stick around and try to be of assitance to Bill while he helped the other guy. It was a fun day! Thanks again to everyone, Dan, Mark, Jim, Tom, ect., ect.

yeah on that note I too wanted to thank Bill Ball and Bill Swift specifically for diagnosing an engine noise on startup on my GT. Time for a new starter.

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS!

Uh-Oh... is that Rick Redpath's car that he just put back on the road after a year of downtime? At first I was afraid it was Brian's but he has champagne leather. Hopefully it will buff right out....

Looks like one hell of a fun run.... nice twisties!
