I'd describe it as being a fraction from being very serious, but as it was quite minor. A Very Serious Scare. Since it was pretty soft dirt I was surprised that there was any damage at all, and as far bodily harm the biggest danger would have been a heart attack. But a little more speed, a little lower berm, a little less shoulder and it would have been all over for both car and driver.

I took a photo of the area showing the skids marks and the berm, but the car itself was already off the berm and back on the road.

I'll attest to the running rich part - on the fun run I was behind you and my eyes were burning from the raw fuel!!! the guy behind me thought someone was running methanol!! glad it's not a big problem, you made it back ok

the infamous fun run curve looked pretty hairy for sure - guess I'm glad there was enough traffic to slow us all down or there may have been more news to report

Haha...sorry about that Rob......I did wave you by though....but then of course we came up on the "almost" off car...
The smoke screen got worse...as the temps got cooler...engine ran really cool once we hit OR and WA.... and I have to change out the oil too....first time I've seen my synthetic Redline 20-50...turn black....

But yes..made it home without a tow... and that is always good....

later,
Tom

Amy and I arrived home safely tonight, after visiting some of her relatives, and stops in Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. Today we took the long way home, chosing the Pacific Coast Hiway over 101.

Thanks Dan, Joe, and whoever else was involved in making this event happen!

Thanks everybody who stopped at my vendor table! I was glued there and did not have much time to wander around - my apologies, if I missed any of you. I also know that some "new-to-me" people stopped by and I never got their names. So, excuse me, if it was one of you and I should have known who you are...

Thanks for the link...the rear turbo with the Greddy boost controller is a great combo...it saves me the trouble of swapping out springs (base system comes with 5lb spring as in mine..) but with the Greddy controller..I can adjust boost to whatever level I want.....and according to the literature I can even change the spool characteristics.... For anyone interested in a turbo set up...regardless of which one..rear or mid....the Greddy Protec II b is a must... amazing what this thing can do ...

You've all done such a great job describing the events during Sharktoberfest 2006 in the preceding posts that I don't need to add much except it's amazing to be joined by so many people from places outside of Southern California. Whether you were able to bring your own car or not, thank you all for attending, especially those who flew in! To borrow and reiterate the true words of Erik Behrendsen, "It's the 928 that brings us together, but it's the people that bring us back!"

Here is my picture contribution for this year (some fun-drive pics courtesy of co-pilot Amy Lee):

Sharktoberfest 2006 - Day 1

Sharktoberfest 2006 - Day 2
http://web.mac.com/jpriv/iWeb/Cars/S...6-Day%202.html

I took many pics at the Astor Automotive Museum, but the ones I'm sharing publicly are mostly of attendees oogling or posing with the cars and other interesting shots. It's too bad more people could not join us to see this amazing collection of automobile, radio, television, and telephone history. I urge everyone to make the time to attend the events scheduled in future years. There are always special surprises that must be experienced first-hand.

P.S. - Tony, that's one lucky kid!!!

I second what everyone has said about this years Sharktoberfest. For those who own a 928 and do not attend events like this are really missing the boat! You make time to go to these things, they're not planned a day or two in advance...they are planned a year in advance! So make the effort; it only betters the 928 community if you're there with us. As for Dan Bise, brilliant! I know you hate it when I say it, but, you are the man! Thanks to Joe Privitelli for being Dan's right hand man, I know how helpful it is to not be doing this by yourself. And to Nicole for always being there for the 928 community. Please continue to support her efforts as she supports us! And to Mark Anderson, Jim Bailey and all the others at 928 Intl. who put this thing on; Kudos to you!

Happy, "928", travels to all!

Erik Behrendsen
