How do I get oil spots and grubby handprints off my paint
Dear All, (1985, 5.0L, 32V, Auto)
I have a considerable amount of oil (oil line to radiator blew out) and handprints (my fault, happened during TT work) on my paint and I can not seem to get it off easily. I got a spray can of Bug and Tar remover thinking that it would work easily, but I still have to scrub my *** off to get the oil and stuff off the paint. I am thinking that there has to be a better way. Anybody got any ideas on this one? Thanks.

I bet people would be afraid to answer this one for fear of hurting your paint, not knowing exactly what you have. On my white porsche, when I got oil hand prints, I'd first try WD-40 and see if that didn't cut it, but I found if it was really ground in, using a little rubbing alcohol on a clean rag worked wonders. Of course, in both cases, the spot needs to be rewaxed.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Rubbing alcohol work really well. If it doesn't then a little bit of rubbing compound followed by a polishing compound, then wax.

The next step beyond rubbing alcohol in terms of aggressiveness is denatured alcohol. Removes tar, tree sap, wax, etc. like magic -- no harm to the paint. Just be sure to wear gloves.

I know rubbing alcohol works to remove permanant marker from paint. My car got a nice mark last year at the Sharks in the park event when the event organizer ( I'm not mentioning names! ) accidently dragged his uncapped marker across the fender. I thought it would not come off, but the alcohol worked great. This was two days after it got marked.

I would venture to say if you have an older paint job that is oxydized, it is not on the paint but in the paint. I would have to agree with Imo000-compounding and buffing it out.

Use Dawn Dish Soap Regular Formula. It will cut the oil but it will also strip any wax or other protectant you have on there.

So basically, what ever I scrub with, I will have to wax that area? Which basically means I will have to wax the whole car...This will be a good excuse to spend some time with her this upcoming weekend. Thanks y'all!

Use mineral spirits, it gets EVERYTHING off without damaging the paint.
