Default Vacuum line replacement

Well, I thought I would be a little pro-active and replace my vacuum lines, but getting them loose is difficult, at best; especially from the connectors. At the risk of ripping to shreds the lines, the connectors and anything else, does anyone have any suggestions for loosening these up for easier removal or any "watch out for_____" ?. Also WYAI, wouldn't you recommend replacing the vacuum connectors, as well? Thanks.

I took off the intake - including the spider legs. Pulled off every piece of rubber or hose that was not holding fluids. Then replaced everything per the WSM with high grade WURTH vacuum lines.

I just ended up using a pair of side cutters and would cut about an inch away and the carefully nip pieces away until it breaks away.

Sorry, not abig secret...

I told David (1981 Shark) who to contact for some parts, he is a fellow rennlister who is selling kits to replace the vacuum system on various years, includling the 81, but i didn't want to use his name and spread the word that I didn't feel his kit is complete.
You can probably figure out who he is anyway.

Where did you get the WURTH lines? Did you replace the vacuum connectors, as well? If so, where did you get them? I guess it's a good thing that there "on there" so good (I guess that's a sign of good vacuum), but I was just looking for any "tricks" to help get them off without having to cut/break/tear, anything if possible. Obviously, I'm not worried about the hoses, since they'll be new... Thanks.

If you want to use hard vacuum lines with the rubber ends, I use the MB hose.

It's cheap, factory quality, and probably in stock at your local MBZ dealer.

or if you would like you can get silicon hose at your local parts store- they will need to order for you- if they can't find it tell them to look in the Gates catolog and it will be listed in the front section- normally comes in 18" lengths in clam shell pakage. silicon holds up to very high temp-

Silicon??? What's diameter of these lines? If they're around 3mm inside diameter, you can buy then at your local hobby shop for about $1 per foot. They're used on 1/8 gas cars/trucks. In addition, they come in a variety of colors (incase you want that "type R" look).

This is just my opinion, don't shoot me.

I'm not a fan of silicon lines - look cheap to me on a 928. I think 2V4V is pointing towards the type of line I use - looks like a fabric braid. What the MBZ dealer stocks is most likely made by WURTH anyway.

81 Shark - I'm not sure what you man by vacuum connectors. If you mean the plastic T's, yes I replaced them all - again WURTH products (my mechanic stocks a boat load of WURTH products, easy access). The lines I use connect directly to every vacuum port.

Yes, the "T's" are what i'm referring to. I'm a big fan of "leave well enough alone", but I also realize that old parts wear out. I sometimes have the dexterity of a cro-magnon man; so some little part's going to get broken. I just want to put back as good or better when replaced. Thanks.
