The title says it all...............my S4 with all my mods and maintenance for a poor state of affairs '90 GT. I've driven the GT, it goes ok, its colour scheme gray/gray is not as good but................it is a GT.
I'd basically be starting all over but with a poorer starting point.
Help

I dunno. That is like trading in your wife of 10 years who you love more than life itself for a well used super model who might be a nympho.
Sure you gain bragging rights during the next bowling night - is it really any better?

Great point HP.................truth be told, I was disappointed when I drove the GT............even giving its rough cosmetic state I expected more. I want the gearing but having worked so hard and long and exspense to get my car to where it is, the GT example is not worth it, IMHO.
To your point of wife vs nympho...........no thanks.

If the GT you drove has a strong engine from 4000RPM to the red line it should go like a bat out of hell. Sounds like maybe that particular GT might be tired if it was just OK.

Thats the point, my S4 goes like a bat out of hell 4k rpm up..............but it has the 2.20 rear end and drops out of the pwr band when I want it to be there.
Kinds like a 2 stroke motorcycle but my car is essentaily there.
What a dilemma.

Well Malcolm you missed an opportunity to see an excellent 2.20 rear end 5spd S4 in action this weekend ..... 2.2 does not lose power anywhere, and I test its limits often

I had a 91 GT and admit that it was faster than the S4 - meinly above 4000 rpm. But I still switched back to an S4, because I felt thlat overall it was the better package.
In your case, you have a double whammy: You have the long rear end, and the 2nd gear start. Maybe you need to work on the 2nd gear start (some people said you can change that with an adjustment), add the dynamic kick-down from the 94 GTS or a Jager transmission shift relay kit. And then you already increased power with the X-Pipe - unless you go supercharger I don't think you have any less power than a GT...
Lastly, my first 928 was an 88 S4 in black with light grey interior. A beautiful car, with a few flaws. So I thought I'd get a perfect one. Well, by the time I had it, I had spent twice the money with the car beeing nicer, but not twice as nice. In the meantime that nicer car has many more miles on it, and got more of the unavoidable rock chips and other wear. So what I'm trying to say is that you really don't gain all that much by upgrading. You'd still have a 928, but spend a lot more money...

One of many things I was hoping to achieve this weekend was to compare my car in its present state to others of the same ilk.
What I need is a great running GT to compare to my S4 then I'll know the potential............not likely in this part of the world.
I've really only my car to use as a benchmark which achieves 250kph with ease; perhaps I'm expecting to much from the GT.
