Default 1986 928S Should I buy?

Hey guys, I have been a 951 guy for some time now; however, I have been bitten by the 928 bug. I went looking for an S4 but, found a S car instead. Here are the details I have:
1986 928 S
75,000 miles, no wreck history found, Texas car, Silver exterior, black interior, stock. Suppose all records and maintenance is up to date and I have a complete PPI and all checks out. What would be a fair purchase price for such a car? Thanks in advance!

it depends, is the last 4 of the VIN higher than 1000? if it is, then it's an 86.5, which S4 brakes and suspension. I would pay around $8,500 for this car if it's an 86.5 with an okay int/ext and good mechanically. it also depends on your personal taste. Is it 5spd or Auto. Rub strips? If it's a regular 86 I would say $7,500

I agree with Borys' position, with regards to price points for you.

I think the car in question could go for more than $8.5K, but since your ideal car would be an S4, I don't think you should pay a premium for this one.

That said, if you've capped your budget at, say, $10K, you're not likely to find a good S4 at that price; I'd say you'd need to to bump $3k to start finding a selection of comparable S4s.

Good cars always pop up, so patience is a virtue when shopping for a 928.

Add $2K+ for 5-speed. "It depends" is the most used and vague statement in the language, but says a lot. Here's some more vagueness, "run of the mill" = $8.5K; "nice" = $10K; "very clean" = $12; "pampered" = $14. Numbers in the description though subjective would help, e.g., paint is 7.5 out of 10. How bad do you want it?

I've had my shark for about two years now. Before that I had a black 944 NA with 18" Turbo Twists for about 7 years. I sold it to a guy I work with and is still in town also. We really need to hook up sometime. I've never got a closeup of a 951.
