It came out of the sky!
So I just took off from a light in the right lane of a local 4 lane street followed by a huge a$$---- driven Ford Excursion.
I accelerate to 40 MPH, not fast but not slow either. I notice up ahead in the right side of the left lane, a piece of wood. It looks to be a 2 foot 2x4 with something attached to it. I think, I'm glad its over there.
I look in the mirror and the Excursion is right on my bumper. Just as we get 2 car lengths ahead of the car in the left lane, he floors it and cuts into the left lane.
I think I should accelerate to get past the wood before the a$$---- hits it but I'm coming up on a car in front of me. There's a curb to my right and another car less than 2 car lengths behind me and not to be out done, the car in the left lane is accelerating to keep up with the Excursion.
Maybe the a$$---- Excursion will see it and swerve around it, but no. He's looking at me with a big---"Yep I'm an a$$---e" --- grin on his face.
All this is happening within a few seconds.
I ease off and move close to the curb. The Excursion hits the 2x4 and it becomes airborne and breaks in two. Both pieces go up, hang for what seems like forever and then start down---directly in front of me.
One impacts the front bumper, just in front of the left front wheel. It goes under with a few bumps and bangs. The other smaller piece has gone higher and is displaying some neat turns and moves any high diver would be proud of.and then hits the lower left windshield. It bounces off to the left, but leave a crack.
The cars behind are running over the debris. The Excursion is gone. Traffic keeps moving in typical Detroit fashion.
I'm left with $1200 in damage, plus a windshield.
The good news is. Since it came out of the sky, its a comprehensive claim. $100 deductable and nothing against the collision coverage so it won't affect my rate.

Jeeeze!!!!!! That still sucks Rob!!! Seems that the Jack As**s roam the roads looking for the nice or special car just to enforce their personalities & lousy driving habits upon such nice vehicles!! I always then try to imagines that guy's reaction should such an event happen & HE was on the receiving end! Glad it was not worse & that insurance will take care of it for you with minimal repercussions.
Hey, btw, I sent ya a pm. I need to find the heat resistance 3M spray to install my hood liner. I went thru the search here a while back & got all the 3M stock #s people have posted, including the one you reference. I couldnt find anyone in this city of a million people to carry any & on the net the best I could do is to find a case of 36 cans! Any chance you can sell me a can of it??? I wanna install my liner before Sharks at Daytona OktoberFast in a couple of weeks! THANKS!

Glad your shark got off easy, and that the debris didn't come through the windshield.
Driving on your side of the state always reminds me of scenes from The Road Warrior. I was not surpised in the least to read that that the Ford Excuseforasmallone didn't stop.

Hi Rob!
Sorry to read this kind of story, just enjoy your present (and future) beers, and think damages could have been even worse...
Although we don't have the pleasure to meet some Ford Excursion down here, there's some rabbits we have to deal with...
Let me know if things turn good for the liners
Take care
Cheers
Michel

There are a lot of bone-heads, weenies and just plain arseholes out there on the road. I was riding my bike behind a van whose driver was obviously not paying attention. We were doing about 70ish and I could see something on the road surface up ahead. I'm thinking to myself, I hope the guy in front doesn't run over whatever it is and launch it. Sure enough, he ran over it and sent it flying back at me. I ducked and it grazed my helmut. I promptly got by the jerk and told him he was number one with an index finger. He just looked at me with a blankly "What???".
I think I'll go out and have a beer for you. Well maybe I'll wait until at least after breakfast.
Ride aware, drive aware.
