Default Fuel pump - how do I tell which type I have?

How do I tell if my 81 has a fuel pump inside the tank?

I have a humming sound that keeps getting louder from the rear of the car and figure it is the fuel pump, but I am not sure if I have a pump is inside the tank or outside or both?

thanks,

Pull the rear cover off and look -- if there are wires leading into the bung(heh heh) at the bottom of the tank, you have an in-tank pump. IIRC you should have one under the cover and one in the PS fenderwell.

PET shows the internal pump to be optional depending on the serial # of the car.

It looks like the external pump is fitted to all.

Thanks for confirming, Malcom... I was in a rush to get to dinner and didn't have time to look it up.
