Default Little Exhaust Help

Hey guys,

I've got a Euro (ZZZ) '81 928S. Looking to do some minor mods now that I have got her running real nice.

Here's the list of mods I'm doing over the next 2 months as I plan on starting to autocross her.

Replace all tie rods
Red Brake Conversion with new cross drilled rotors
18" TT wheels (Currently 15" phone dials..Yuck!)
Side Rocker Panels
Add rear wing
Paint (Yellow with black spoilers, rims and rockers)
Bolt in roll bar, only 'cuase it looks cool and gets the chicks..

I'm also looking to do custom exhaust with MSDS headers to an X pipe, into mufflers and then exiting out just in front of the read wheels. I plan on extending the bottom of the rocker panels enough to accomodate the exhaust tip sticking through a hole on each side.

The question is, do you think I'll have clearance issues? I have seen true dual exhaust systems with dual mufflers under the front seat area, so I'm assuming it should work with a low profile muffler. Not planning on hitting too many speed bumbs. Will it work or am I smoking crack?

BTW I live in the wonderful state of Florida where rear exhaust in not mandatory. In fact no state inspection or emissions at all in the panhandle.

Finally, do you think the loss of 3-4hp for dual K&N cone filters is worth the increase in sex appeal..

If you look at the underside there is a nice easy path two side exits in front of the rear wheels without going below the tub. It's obvious. The only question is how loud do you want it? Since you'll have to have an X setup made for the headers, you could do a Magnaflow True-X muffler to simplify things and help muffle. Then do a pair of 4" or 5" round mufflers behind it. If you don't mind really loud, just run straight pipes after an X...

Thinking of taking off the stock rear and putting on a stock 928 wing. Although if a 8' billet aluminium wing will make a honda faster... No seriously a large wing would clash with all the neon I'm installing..

Not gonna happen. My town is flooded (like all towns) with little kids in their hondas with neon, wings and buzzbomb mufflers acting out Fast and the Furious..

I want to make a bumber sticker that says, "Your Honda may have 400hp, but it still handles like a Honda..You tuned the wrong import..Stupid."

Please tell me you're kidding about the rocker panels, wing, & rollbar....

Save yourself a lot of $ and say the same thing with the following sticker on each body panel:

Rocker panels are useless, dead weight. How's that going to help in any autocross?

Wing is going to be a lot more than popping off a little piece of rubber -- look into it.

Rollbar to get chicks? Jeez, how old are you? If it's not a class requirement it's dead weight and will only slow you down.

Also, if you're going to be representing Porsche, you ought to step up a little with the Honda jokes, too. At least as good as: "My lugnuts require more torque than your car makes"

Rollbar. No
Wing. Maybe
Rockers. Yes

I'm looking to have a fun safe car for autocross that I can drive on the street as well. I'm not a good enough driver to make it a dedicated autocross driver. Doing brakes, tie rods etc for safety. Exhaust for a little extra bump in HP and a mean note out the sides. Wing and rockers purely for looks at the cost of extra weight.

As for my age, you're never to old to try to get chicks.

I will go practice my Honda jokes, they are not yet worthy

Here's a few picks for the curious. Again, thanks in advance for letting me pick you brains. My last Porsche was a '73 911 Carrerra I had in High School in the mid Eighties. So I have a clue, or at least can nod and act like I know what you're talking about. My father had a new '86 928 so I had to get one when I finally grew up. Actually working a deal on an '86 US Auto for the wife now.

Car is in my Avatar, here are some close ups of the engine and interior taken before I cleaned up. Still a ways to go.
