Default Opinion on CF Envader Hood (now for sale $100)

I have had this in the garage for about a year now and think I like the lines but would like comments from the listers here. Blunt, direct, ... are fine, but I am really interested in why it is liked or shunned. A one liner of "that's cool" or "Yuk!" really does not help.

If you paint it body color, you've got a hood with a curious bump on it. Unless you're using that bump to house some sort of forced induction goodie or other go-fast part, it detracts from the lines of the car. And the CF probably doesn't save signficant weight over the 18 (?) lb stock hood.

If you leave it raw carbon fiber, you end up like every other 10 year old Honda Accord in SoCal with a strangely mismatched hood that looks like it's stuck part way through a Transformers (TM) transformation.

Sorry, but I think that thing is hideous. Add-ons are either form, or function. There's no function, and the form is bad. But then, I'm old and I drink and my hands shake, so take this with a dram of Drambuie.....

Default Second image, side profile

Forced induction is on the list to add, and yes it would be painted. to match the car. I agree a raw CF makes it into a wantabee ricer. Is the original really only 18 pounds? The other concern I have with the CF's is the strength of the hood latch attachment point. I really don't want to have to add hood locks and pins to make sure it does not pop up. Is there anyone else out there with one of these?

stick with stock

i think it looks nicht ser gut!

it also has no use if you need hood clearance the only clearanced area appears to be just above where the radiator would sit is and any supercharger is farther back

Let me answer this with a question:

How do the lines of this hood correspond to the lines of the car?

Default Lines, hmmm

Nicole,

You saw the car saturday, cause you laughed at the 85MPH speedo
This is looking like it is going to be garage art for a dart board soon, sigh.

A small "power bump" in the centerline, ala the old e-type might work if you could find an old-world craftsman to beat one into the OEM aluminum hood, and you needed it for the supercharger snout....

I think Joe Serio had a similar hood, though it was made to fit the 928. Check around for Sharktoberfest '05 pix and look for posts by jserio. Here's one.

Anyway, I really didn't care for it. I tried looking at it from different angles and I never really "got" it. It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, and I would rather have this hood than no hood at all. But replace a perfectly good hood with something like this? I don't get it.

Remember the 928 has few lines, but they have the following characteristics:

1. None are straight
2. None are geometric, except the round headlights
2. They are somewhat sharp, but never have a sharp "edge"

If you want to add something to the 928 that lives in harmony with the original shape, you should take this into consideration.

If you don't care about harmony, that's a whole different story...

It depends on your tastes, I think if you like it then keep it. CF always looks better with a black car in my opinion. My favorite hood was the functional NASA ducts put about 2/3 back on the hood of a twin turbo 928 and they were made to look stock, and yes they were functional!

I don't get it the 1st photo looks like the "power bulge" is down in to the motor not up and out. The 2nd profile shot I can understand.

Round out the corners some and it may, repeat may, look the part but only on a black 928 with something serious to hide under there.

You can hide a lot under a stock 928 hood

Of all the modified hoods out there, the only one that I found even vaguely appealing was the "cowl-induction" one on that car with the "Captain America" paint job.........
