Tranmission doesnt have to come down. just open the rear up, remove the cv joints and start pulling things apart! the LSD does need some finessing to get it in and shimmed properly, but its a pretty easy job. I think its a 4-6 hour shop job.
ive had it done several times. '84, scots 82 and the holbert machine.

If Mark did a diff swap on his 87, then my casual eyeball measurments are wrong. On my 89 it sure looks like the gas tank and battery box are too close to maneuver the LSD into the carrier.

Most of the LSDs I've seen for sale are $650+/- $200.

Also I have new dual cap distributor for the 84/85 euro's that needs a new home (box is collecting dust).
A 2.75 gearbox (G28.03) would be pre-83 so fitting it to her 85 (G28.10) would be more work. G28.05 is also pre-83. G28.07/08 and up are 83+. The distributor caps and rotors are new? If so, I'm interested.

Gio, 89 S4 5-speed is 2.64. Probably the only more desireable gearboxes are 89GT and 85-86 Euro.

Bill, I think you're right. Even if the open diff could come out, I don't see an LSD going in between the battery box and diff case. Samantha's 85 would be before the extra room for split exhaust.

These must be eBay specials. A decent used one from one of our better known vendors has been on the plus side of that since I can remember.

Most were people selling on Rennlist and a few on ebay. I don't think I've seen more than 15 for sale. Porken was selling 2 a year or so ago for I think $350 and $450.

That one was for sale about 8 months ago from the same place, but he said at that time that it was "probably" from a 928. It didn't get any bids. It looks right.

Porken was givng them away unless they needed rebuilding. The ones I got from 928 Intl have been real nice.

Mark, in your case its most likely same as S4. Earlier cars had longer box. It was shortened in '86 MY to make room for double exhaust.

Default Re: Question for item #260033029572 - Porsche 928 limited slip differential

Samantha,

"Numbers stamped on housing are:
4061006205 550780 S40
Number on CV flange: 928 332 206 00.
I think will fit cars up to 1985."

This is the answer I got from the seller.

After looking up the part number in PET5, my best guess is I am clueless cause I can not find the partnumber at all. I get error 2 in PET5

Anyone else who can help?

There is an LSD unit that the seller claims to be brand new on Ebay, do a search, I think it was $800 or so
