Hi Bill just a thought how is the front attach mout on the lower control arm the front bushings are boned to the arms and if they get oil on them they will delaminate and give wear , i also pry the arms to the back of the car before tightening the lower control arms mounting clamps, Stan

Hi Stan:

The bushings are clean and oil-free. Why do you pry the arms back? I noticed the location of the arm is set by positioning sleeves that the housings bolt too.

bill, my car has poly bushes from mike at racebred autos in oz in place of these. although they do sahrpen up the feel and steering im not sure they are the culprit to your handling woes.. depending on the budget and if you dont mind a little more feedback through the wheel id replace whatever i could that was rubber with polyurethane, but id lay odds that a stiffer coilover will probably resolve most of the problem, though its easier to speculate about a remedy than it is to actualy effect one.

Could you go into more details on positives and negatives with the poly bushings on the lower A-arms? Also any issues uncovered during the replacement process.

I got a reply back from racebread - they only do 86MY and before bushings for the lower.

Ken has set me up with a shock and spring dyno shop for testing this week, so we will find out just what condition the Koni/sport spring combination is in.

bill, ive just had a quick look at mine and im not sure now whether the rear bush was replaced or not, the front one definitely is and it is a late 86 and has the S4 suspension. i really like what the poly bushes have done for the feel and handling, after having them done the car did feel a lot more precise in the front in terms of initial turn in and resposiveness. i think louis description is spot on in terms of the fact that you are more aware of the road surface but its not terrible or even distracting, to me its definitely an enhancement. i think at the time i wrote something about it here on the rennlist and said that the ride quality wasnt any worse than stock.

What is different in old and new lower pushings anyway? Arm is obviously different lenght but are bushings different in these two versions? Without comparing side by side I would bet they are exact same.

My thoughts exactly - Arm is different (at the other end) but i've never noticed any difference in the bushes.

If that's the case the guy that makes the poly bushings for lower arm may have a bigger market than he is aware of
