A GT or not GT?

Phil Tong's site has a nice writeup on the markings for a 'real' GT. Also, FWIW, here's a shot of my engine stamp pad from my 90 GT:

That raised number surface is at the front of the block facing up next to the passenger cylinder head usually partly hidden by the front engine harness.

Here's a fuzzy shot from 35,000 feet- the pad is right under the upper radiator hose; you can see a passenger side plug wire boot at the lower left. DISCLAIMER: This is from right after I bought the car, please excuse the oil and crap.....

Doors are in aluminum and can corrode but should not rust.
It sounds like this is a car to avoid if the front is pushed in.

As I said in my PM Brian the car needs much TLC just to bring it to where one would expect to start..........if we assume the engine and tranny are good it needs motor mounts, suspension, tyres, condensor/rad/fan work, bodywork etc etc.
I drove my S4 300kms to see this car; saw and drove it and then drove 300kms home and all I could think about was all the work..........now that I've driven a GT I realise the differences are not huge...............perhaps I'll just spring for the supercharger and keep the car I really like.

I bought a 90T that was pretty well let go on maint. I did all my own work and now have a fairly nice car. It is a bunch of work, but worth it to me. Maybe that one needs more work than mine. But if the price is $17k for a fixer - keep shopping or go SC like you want.

I need absolution from my wife to bring a 2nd sports car home and judging by her comments last night (she was with me) this is not the car. I don't blame her, a month or so from now it'll be 4x4's and tractors for +4mths.

Ah, you know what, I think rust really is a relative thing...I live in British Columbia and my 928s was originally from ontario and there's not a spot of rust on it. But our Rover which spent its whole life here on the west coast has rust in all the traditional spots you'd supposedly find on one from back east. I have to fix something rust related on that truck at least once a year! I think how much the po's cared for the car counts at least as much as where it came from..my opinion anyway.
