Others speculate that 952 is actually the factory designation for the rare 944 Turbo Cabriolet. However, Porsche part numbers show that 952 was, in fact, the factory designation for all right hand drive 944 Turbos.

PHP Code:
The best 951's are 1986 and newer... bigger turbos, better designs, etc.
Carl, if you can find a pre 86' 951, get it!

Of course you all know I am watching this thread.

The turbo S does not have greater displacement. All 2.5.

I guess until someone brings a 951 to the table that can out run Mark Anderson......this is a pretty easy question to answer

When Kelly-Moss was handed a blank check to build the fastest 951 the world has ever seen, the first thing they did was toss out the 4-banger and drop in a 928 engine. What does that tell you

These threads are so much fun. Where's my popcorn smiley?

I guess you guys haven't heard of the guy in Dallas that built the Doom/Doom II engines. Those engines were based on 968 engines, and put out 900 and 1200bhp respectively. A variant of one of those engines made it into a GT3 based 968 that is still raced in Japan and he does pretty well, from all accounts.

Regards,

Thread title says 951, not 968 - doesn't count

I've seen that car before, didn't one of the (maybe the original) doom car end up being stolen?

It boils down to what Harvey wants...

He wants to go fast, and get that thrill when you are shoved back it to your seat when the boost comes on...

He will buy a 951..

Why? Because it comes from the factory that way....

What he should do, but hasn't really summoned up the courage yet, is mount a turbo or supercharger on his pristine '85 928S, and be happy!

Close the thread - this is the $million$ answer. I still cannot believe how fast my 1981 slow poke US car is with 6psi and exhaust. You would have to have one hell of a modded 951 to keep up with a supercharged 32V 928.

a year ago i use to swear by the 951 as the best bang for you buck. but now there are some pretty fair priced kits. and you get to pick super or turbo. the 928 has alot of engine combos

I'm no 951 expert, but I understand the 87 had wider rear track, LSD, stronger gearbox and better brakes than the 85, 86.

i think that's the 88 s and the 89's with the better brakes, larger turbo, lsd, and hardened 1st and 2nd gears, koni adjustables, larger swaybars, etc. there is no turbo kit available for the 928. if you want to be faster straighline in the 928, you'll have to go to forced induction or alter the bottom end. i don't think a stock 88 or 89 928 will out accelerate or out handle a stock turbo s. i think a stock 86-87 928 will be faster straightline than a stock 86-87 944 turbo.
