Rear Wing/Spoiler for '83
I am in the middle of purchasing an '83 that is in dgo shape considering it's age. One thing that bothers me is the fact that Porsche decided to make a spoiler out of what appears to be Foam Rubber. I was wondering if there is a good place to pick a replacement one up, or if there is a Fiberglass Replica... relaly I am just looking for options...
What have you guys/gals done in the past?

they only make fiberglass replicas of the S4 and up spoilers. as far as the mini whale tails, only original parts available. you can do like i did and change yours to the later factory style, but that is a pretty involved process to do it right!

Greg Gray had a write up he did on painting a "S" spoiler that he said turned out better looking then the new one he had bought. It was a very detailed write up, do a search on his name for rear spoiler.

I've been trying to find an S4/GTS style wing for the '80 as well, but they seem to be a rare find...mine was naked stock and it takes some effort to add the <correct> S spoiler.

I have a spare S spoiler that I might be willing to part with for the right price. I bought it over a year ago for a project and have never gotten around to starting it. In fact, I haven't even opened the box the spoiler came in. For all I know it could be a couple of bricks. LOL

I appreciate the VERY quick response to my query... Maybe it is just me but I really can't believe no one has replicated the older 3 piece wing/spoiler in a fiberglass form. Or has someone and I have simply missed the remark?
I could refurbish and repaint the one that is there but I wonder how long it will last... Here is another question about it.. related at least.. How does the OEM Wing/Spoiler come off? Is it glued or bolted? or is it at this point more.. Grace of god kind of thing

it is bolted on. the reason it is foam rubber is cause the spoiler needs to flex in order to be installed. for the side pieces the bolts are underneath it. And that is a firm NO, no one makes the 'S' rear spoiler in fiberglass as a production piece.

I had plans to "re-design" it but so far haven't gotten to it. There really isn't a need to reproduce it. There are enough spares floating around to satisfy the market. Enough people have replaced their S-spoiler with an S-4 spoiler so those s-spoilers are on the market. Not to mention they really don't go bad.

There are 4 posts with 4mm studs at the top, and 12 sheet metal nuts with plastic spacers. The factory screws are 32mm long, but 1" are just long enough. (I switched to big head stainless steel #8 screws.)
The upper aluminum trim pops onto plastic clips, which are attached with short screws. These same clips are used as glass spacers in 3 places on the bottom of the spoiler (the spoiler is not attached to these clips).

And this...
Hmmm...now that I think about it, the brake flap could be just a strip across the front of the main piece...

I am still trying to figure this all out and what direction I want to go in. The one on the car I am looking at isn't gouged or cracked that I can tell. The car was repainted recently and I don't know why the owner at the time didn't get it done then, it would have made more sense. Now, all of that aside... adding an S4 spoiler.. wouldn't that leave the Bolt Holes behind that would need to be filled nd painted oover for the sides of the rearend? I am simply looking at options. That said, I know I seem to keep harping on it... But wow... no ABS plastic or Fiberglass, that simply boggles my mind. I think I remember reading a reply saying it needed the ability to flex. Any reason why it needs to be able to have soo much flex that iberglass or high quality ABS wouldn't work?
