I do all scheduled maintenance on or before schedule. So that's a 3. For breakage I'm a 3 +/- 1 depending up on the car. My '91 has operated with very few issues. Most of the time I'm a 2 or maybe a 2.5 on the '91. But, when something breaks that isn't a simple R&R I go all the way with the WYAT disease. For instance when the reman'd CD-2 died one day after the warranty expired I took the entire interior out, did a completely new stereo (head, speakers, x-overs, hard-disk etc), fixed the rattling windows, reglued vinyl, etc. So, for surface stuff it's a 2 but when anything breaks that's a real job I go deep into 4. The '89 is a 2/4/2/4/2/4 kinda job. Something little breaks I fix it. Something not-so-little breaks and I go deep. Next project on the '89: CEL removal and refurbish, new fuses, relays etc. The '91 is at the point in its life where the motor's starting to leak a little from various places. Some of them I've been ignoring for a while. I'm going to pull the motor and do a total refresh and replace hard-to-reach stuff in the engine bay too.

I think I fall north of 3 but a little south of 4. PM is by far the lowest cost method of keeping the car, unless you buy them to just drive and throw away. I don't mind spending on PM and immediately on anything that fails in service. But-- I look at 'failed in service' as 'failed to PM', something that's an owner fault rather than a problem with the car.
BTW, I did pull the rear courtesy light, cleaned the contacts, replaced the fuse I blew when trying to diagnose the problem. So all on the car is once again functional.
Did PM on some interior bits too-- Reglued the door panel skins on top, cleaned the carpet lowers on the panels, and even cleaned the rear carpet at the bottom of the hatch and the tool panel carpet. Is that PM?

I'm a 3 average I'd say -- sometimes I go a bit overboard preventing problems, but not always. It was pointed out to me that my steering rack bushings were a bit loose at my last alignment. Recently, both end seals gave out at once. So, guess what I'm doing this weekend? Oh, and WIAIT, motor mounts, oil pan gasket/stud kit...
This was truly deferred maintenance -- I wasn't going to shirk it forever, but I was hoping I'd get my garage set up before I had to fool with it.

Next thing you know, it’s time to upgrade. Should it be new sway bar, chips and exhaust or do I need to go for more. Then the come the big decision! Do I turbo charge or super charge or is it worth the money to stroke it. Where can I get my hands on a sharktuner? What’s DR cell phone number?
Now we are talking about air to fuel ratios, fuel pressure, and pre-detonation. Can I find that vacuum leak? Maybe I should dyno it or take it to the drag strip, at a minimum I’ll buy a G-tech. What about my wheels? Those replicas I bought 2 years ago just aren’t cutting it. Do I need to advance the cam or just add a little more camber?
Holy cow, if I only had the gumption, maybe some day I could go to Laguna Seca raceway and beat all the big dogs once I get everything dialed in correctly (BTW congratulations Mark!). One day I bet I have over 5,000 posts to Rennlist, people respect my opinion with at least half of them making sense.

I think I'm a 2, unless I can't do it myself, then I'm a 1, I strive to be a 3 although I don't have a strict enough regimine, enough knowledge/ability or money to be fully there yet. And of course I long to be a 4, but then I'd of bought that Pearl White '95 GTS that Chuck Z helped his friend sell in So.Carolina... and then I'd have so much money that I'd stay both a 4 AND a 3.... But I gotta start PLAYING the lottery if I ever hope to WIN it!$$$

I guess I fall in the 4.5 catagory. I buy more things then I install and am always fixing or improving something, although you multiply that by 4 P-cars and I might need to drop down to a 3 at this rate.

3+, pretty much on everything in inventory.............it costs waaaaaaay less to maintain equipment than to fix it AFTER you have grenaded it, by running it hurt.
I maintain 3 tractors, 2 trucks, 4 cars, 2 ATVs, 3 sleds and several barns worth of implements and power tools..................I know the difference between "maintenance" vs "repair"
Oh yeah, and the Harley, (which I treat like an HMB, anyway )
And Sterling,........ you INVENT ways to spend money..........

I would say right now I am a 3 +.
I bought mine a couple of months ago, so far I have done T-belt, tensioner, water pump, motor mounts, oil pan gasket, drivers side door handle, pass side window motor, window switch, radio, repair inst panel lights, a few coolant hoses, radiator end caps, minor tune up, service transmission, and a few minor things.
Things I have to do before I am willing to get more than a $100.00 worth of towing away from my shop.
TT rebuild, rear main seal, convertor bearings, switch on the trans, rear axle seals, seal for shifter, repack axles, replace every fuel and coolant hose in the engine compartment, replace cam chains, rotors and pads all the way around, repaint calipers, repack front wheel bearings. plus what ever i find while i am there.
I have parts for most of this in my to do box, just do not have the time to do it.
Things to do before I am done, suspension upgrade,
powder coat cam covers and timing belt covers, paint, interior, wheels, and a blower.
