Default What type of owner are you? FIX or PM?

So, which category do you fall in, I've seen so many posts that suggest
0) can't afford the WSM!
1) oh my g*d, now i have to spend more money, or
2) its broke, i'll fix it anyway, or
3) I will do PM to make sure it doesn't break, or
4) money is no object....

Where do you sit, just interested.
I'm a 3.0 ( just edited, realized how many parts $300 + I have sitting in the garage I need to get to, and will do tomorrow and wednesday, wifey out of town, so what she won't see, she won't know about!)
Tried to make this a poll, but screwed up along the way!

A solid three!! My supermodeled '86 went up in flames for lack of PM, so I don't screw around any more.

.5 here. The power steering rack has been leaking for 7 years now. This car would be expensive if I fixed everything that broke.

In 3 months of ownership, I'm at $8 per mile in PM. That make me a 3 or a 4?

Actually, I've always been at least a 3, even with old Civics and daily drivers. I hate the idea of getting stranded.....

Default The 928 Lifecycle

I was thinking about this exact same poll a few days ago except to me it’s more like the progression in the 928 ownership lifecycle. Either you move on, sit still, or sell.

The first stage is… WOW, look at me… I just bought my first 928. Congratulations to all, welcome to the club! While everything seems to be pretty good, I’ll work on shining her up and maybe install a new stereo. Should I keep it original or customized to my liking?

Then it progresses into replacing or checking the TB & WP and maybe an item here or there plus how about some new rims. I wonder should I tint the windows and what is this stuff dripping on the floor?

Next thing you know you found your way onto Rennlist. Now you are thinking motor mounts, flex plates, torque tubes and proper alignments. Jeesh, my new tires aren’t wearing so well. What about the LH or EZK are they okay… maybe I should replace the relays just to be safe. Maybe I’ll clean my contacts and ground points while I’m at it. So what is a crank position sensor anyway?

Maybe I need a new steering wheel and how about those vacuum lines? What about Paul’s great looking interiors are my lug nuts shinny enough? After all it’s only money. I getting to know a few things, should I create my own website?

Next thing you know, it’s time to upgrade. Should it be new sway bar, chips and exhaust or do I need to go for more. Then the come the big decision! Do I turbo charge or super charge or is it worth the money to stroke it. Where can I get my hands on a sharktuner? What’s DR cell phone number?

Now we are talking about air to fuel ratios, fuel pressure, and pre-detonation. Can I find that vacuum leak? Maybe I should dyno it or take it to the drag strip, at a minimum I’ll buy a G-tech. What about my wheels? Those replicas I bought 2 years ago just aren’t cutting it. Do I need to advance the cam or just add a little more camber?

Holy cow, if I only had the gumption, maybe some day I could go to Laguna Seca raceway and beat all the big dogs once I get everything dialed in correctly (BTW congratulations Mark!). One day I bet I have over 5,000 posts to Rennlist, people respect my opinion with at least half of them making sense.

Oh yeah that’s right; quit day dreaming and get back to work: WAX ON… WAX OFF!

I viewed it this way, because I have seen a few of my friends give up old cars, like 68 firebirds, because they were having kids, or something, and needed the extra 5 grand or something, then drink beers and think, god i miss that car.

I bought my, to have, FOREVER. I have fixed some things, and when I have some more time, I will fix some more things. I am not in a huge hurry here, and really don't have that much time to mess with it. I don't drive it much as there is a battery leak that keeps me from leaving it anywhere for too long. Plus since i don't know when the timing belt was last changed, need to do that before i driver her much anyway.

So, i got into this knowing it would be a project, not huge, it runs and runs well and the inside is in pretty darn good shape and the exterior has a couple of dings, but all in all, a good car, just needs some attention as it looks like the last few people that owned her didn't take care of her.

So, I think there are many ways to go into this, i went in with my eyes open, and i do what i can when i have time and when i can afford it. I look at next spring as the time when I can start driving her around often, not all the time, just when i want to, like every weekend, or at night after i get home and need to pound on something from work frustration, so it might as well be the gas pedal.

I don't know what number that puts me at, but i love this forum, love my car, and will never get rid of it...........................unless of course I can get into a gt or gts for short money

Peace.....
