So I was looking through some parts and ran across my rear seat hatch lock for the #11 preproduction car. Ignore the key as it’s not the correct one but do you notice anything interesting with the lock? This is the first time I noticed this. I love finding these kind of things on the early builds.

i needed to get some keys cut just a few weeks ago for some storage box locks i have, tried a few local companies, but they did not have any.
then tried an old school guy in an old shop and after about 5 mins looking he said its the same as an old Ford key from the 70's - a Cortina, Fiesta etc over here in the UK
and sure enough he cut it and its a perfect fit, as below
the locks i have are all from S4' so it shows they never altered the lock
cheers
Phil

That’s great info! I knew the locks were from something more common but I wasn’t sure what. This is the only one I have seen with the Ford emblem on it.

I can only assume that VDO was making gauge clusters for Ferrari in the same facility in 1989:

Another nice ad. I like the text also, the "enigma" 928s raised to the skies with the 944 as the superb runner up...

One of my early jobs was working in a hardwarestore in my small town of Arvidsjaur in sweden. I was 17/18 at the time but already very interested in motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles and electronics. The owner of the store(and other stores and realestate) was rather wealthy at the time. Every day he commuted to the store, 170 kilometres(105 miles) front and back to Arvidsjaur from the other small town of Arjeplog. Guess what he was driving...? Of course, a bronze metallic 928s with the burgundy all leather interior. Understandably I was never alllowed to drive his porsche but I got a ride or two in it. This was my first experience with the 928 and I was very impressed, but at the time the lamborghini's and the customized strosek's on my walls was cooler cars. I really do think though, that this did leave a lasting impression. I bought my first 928 just 8 years after this, and I'm not sure this would have happened otherwise. Sure the price was a factor but still, It's such a fabulous car. Once you have been in one for a ride you just don't forget it do you...?
His car was similar to this one, but an auto and no polished wheels...
