Default Test drove a GTS

Ok, I don't know much about sharks, so bear with me. I have a couple questions about a '93 GTS I test drove tonight.

First, where is the option code sticker? I was trying to find the paint code. It's a dark green. So dark it appears black at a glance.

The accelerator pedal seemed unusually stiff. Is this normal, or maybe the cable needs replacing?

Some little nits to pick, like a little curb rash on a couple wheels, mirror switch inop, **** for a radio and bald tires. Glovebox opened all of 1". It was a bear getting the owner's manual out. For some reason when the p/s door was opened the trunk release motor would spin.

My next step would be a PPI with a different shop. What else should I be looking for? The shop that has it has maintained this one for some time, and they're known around here as somewhat of a 928 haven already.

Oh, on an OT note, a boxster S got right behind me, then passed without looking over. I finally know for sure it not just a snub of 944's when they do that.

The option code sticker is under the carpet in the back.
928s often need heavier inputs than "lesser" cars. You might have the linkage checked.
The glove box needs adjusting as does the hatch release button at the driver's door. You might try just turning it like a **** and see if that helps.
The PPI is essential.
Most Boxter drivers wouldn't know a 928 from a refrigerator.

^^^^^^^^^^^ What Ernest said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I can add that if these little things are present, there are some lurking issues mechanically. A tended to car does not have these little issue dangling....if they do, you can bet the big issues weren't even a thought. DEFINITELY have this car checked from top to bottom even if it costs you $400.00 with a leak down and such. That $400 can save you uncounted $1000's

Good luck!

Or a 944 from a dishwasher.

The glove box didn't open fully because (possibly) the carpet/foam covering for the LH/EZK ECUs is not correctly seated.

The radio - if stock - sucks because the foam in the speakers is probably no longer foam.

Was there not a bad GTS in the Houston area?
Is it with a dealer?
Get someone in the Houston area to check it out as well.

i second Dave's comment about the EZK cover, on airbag cars with the different glove box i think its common if the cover panel is not mounted correctly, very simple fix just reposition and thread the nylon/plastic thumb screw.

If the paint code is not on the door jam it may be a repaint.
Or the label fell off.

LOL..I know you guys are just responding to his comments, but seriously, the glove box and such are trivial things compared to the situation at hand. Based on all he says, these surface issues tell this car is no doubt neglected and I am sure you can all see that as well...being 928 owners.

Also, meant to say that your color description sounds like Amazon Green. Is this car on the Registry by chance?

I was going to add the same comment. Would this happen to be the early 93 Amazon green listed here. http://www.928registry.org/1993-928GTS-5129.htm

This car sold a year or so back and I believe there are mileage issues. I think it had 100k more miles than the 90k listed.

BTW coming from a 944 everything on the 928 feels heavy, including the gas, clutch (if manual) and steering. After driving a good GTS for a few minutes that heavy feeling disapears and the car shines. Although getting back into the 944 you will immediately see the difference.

Good Luck

I wouldn’t necessarily say that this is true. I’m sure many of us, including me, have a few minor things that need attention but the major items are always taken car of. In my case the driver seat heater is not working, the remote trunk release has a mind of its own, the driver door stop is not holding the door open. These are just some of the few small unimportant things that can be looked at on a later date. However everything else mechanically is sound. I rather spend the money on crucial maintenance items than on things like the seat heater. I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks like this. However a PPI is a must.

Definitely not the car in Anthony's link. The one I looked at has a black interior.

The radio is an aftermarket POS. I just figure replacing it is another expense.

The rubber around the doors, windows and rear hatch needs replacing. No dash cracks though.

It's currently owned by a doctor. It doesn't look like he was very involved with it. Benign neglect maybe. Issues were addressed as they needed to be, but doen't look like an effort was made to keep it in tip-top shape.

The car still has a value. Whether the seller and I can agree to that value is probably the big question. I have to determine if I'm willing to go green. The car was advertised as black.

This isn't the first 928 I've driven. Something is wrong with the gas pedal. Apparently it's not a common problem, so that's somewhat worrisome.

ahhh common Keith, you got me feeling bad now. I've been going about this all wrong then! Soooo if I have trival issues that I haven't gotten to yet that automatically means I have neglected the more impt issues?? Here I was thinkin that perhaps instead the bigger issues required my attention before the trivial ones? That means I gotta get after all of the little stuff cause I dont want my Shark feeling neglected or others thinkin I'm sluffin off here on my responsibilites! Oh... the list keeps growing as much as I try to keep up!!
