ok well so much for quaiffe

Bill what i meant by carrier, is the part that the ring gear bolts onto, ususally its an open diff with spider gears or some type or lsd or locker or whatever. I could be wrong in calling that a "carrier" but what i meant was the part that the ring gear bolts onto, it looks like......a short coffee can with a dome on itt with the spider gears. hell i dont know how to describe it

OK, well I call that the differential...but I see what you mean - the standard diff is a collection of gears and shaft parts, but the LSD comes as a assembly that looks like a coffee can.

if you want to know what insiders in the manufacturing world call it is the differential case. The housing that holds all the parts (and oil) is the differential carrier. I have spent the better part of 15 years in the automotive parts manufacturing indusry. A lot of that in drivetrain.

OK, so what I call the case is the carrier and vice versa.

Gio:

Gee, I don't want to be accused of undercutting 928 International and stealing their business.

I thought that the ring and pinion gears were matched pairs? Don't you potentially introduce some problems by swapping one but not the other?

Yes, that's what I meant by "you use your EXISTING ring gear." You keep your current ring gear (and pinion, of course). I got an LSD from 928 Intl. They left the ring gear on. I'm removing that and putting on the gear that is currently in my car when I do the LSD swap.

Quaife were going to have a look at a diff for me, there is quiet a bit of commonality between the G50 gearbox and the 928. They said 5 diffs if custom was a minimum and if the mods were minimal they would look at doing them for 750 pounds each. If the mods weren't minimal the cost would be double.

Cheers Greg

About the Quaife , as I recall 10-15 years ago they wanted minimum ten units and maybe $2,500 each now .."if the mods were minimal they would look at doing them for 750 pounds each. If the mods weren't minimal the cost would be double. " with exchange rate at 1.894 dollars some $1,500 to $3,000. Mark Anderson has converted to a normal limited slip in his GTS gear box, the tricking of the PSD with a bolt tended to cause understeer in slow corners as well as the amount of lock-up seemed to change with heat.
