Default S4 spare tire

I've installed S4 brakes on my '82. I've been looking for a S4 spare since I don't believe my '82 spare will clear the S4 front calipers.

I'm bidding on a spare out of a '87 (red) on ebay. The listing expires in a couple of hours & I just checked the listing again and find that the lister has added that the spare pictured in the listing is "no longer available" and that he has substituted a DIFFERENT spare, also supposedly out of a '87, but silver in color.

Anybody know if any of the '87+ spares were silver. I'm thinking I may have to cancel my bid unless the lister provides assurance that the spare will actually fit a car with S4 brakes. Thanks.

There is a silver spare that fits but make sure it is the aluminum one and not the steel.

I used to have one but the ones "H" has are much better.

Buying from Roger is like the most satisfying experience one can have in life, second, nay akin to the birth of one;s first child ... or catching that elusive butterfly .... perhaps better than the first raindrop on Mars

My spare in my '87 is silver and worked quite well when needed.

Hi All

Hmm....not thought about this....I just fitted some 18 inch wheels and "assumed" ALL space savers were the same ????
Mine is an 86 S2 with the S4 Brakes, suspension etc....so are there different sizes of space saver spare ?
Or with my 18s would I be better off saving weight and removing spare and carrying an aerosol inflator ??

All the best Brett

With 18s, I'd carry the spare in case of a bent rim. Actually, I'd carry the spare no matter what. Those cans don't work if you have anything other than a smaill nail hole.

Sorry H,
Was not thinking - one of my many attributes.
I have edited my post accordingly.

Were all the spares painted in the body color or red?

If a seller on ebay changes the item during a running auction, I'd be very suspicious. What else is going to change, and when? Maybe, after the auction, he'll say that the silver spare is no longer available, and you get a bottle of tire sealant instead???

Well, I received the S4 spare I "won" on ebay today.

It is aluminum and it is silver. The spare is a 165-15 and the wheel is marked 5.5 x 15, ET 30. It appears, however, to be out of a 944 Turbo (rather than a '87 S4 as advertised).

The part number is 951.362.131.00.

I don't care about the color or what it came out of - as long as it will work on my car ('82 with S4 brakes).

Anyone know if the 951 spare will work? Thanks.

It should work fine. I wouldn't be surprised if its the correct part number as well. The hub sizes are the same (which is why us 944 guys steal your S4 brakes so often).
